Web Development Manager

(San Francisco, California)Our team of 9 engineers is curious, driven, friendly, and collaborative. We believe in an egoless approach to development and a blameless approach to problem solving. While we work independently, we support each other through frequent code and design reviews, daily stand-ups, and pair programming, facilitating learning and reducing friction in our regular release schedule of every 3 weeks.
- Drive the development of our web application and API.
- Drive and define system architecture and solutions.
- Act as the liaison between support, product, marketing, sales and business development.
- Build and manage a team of high performing engineers.
- Develop, mentor and coach a high-functioning team of engineers.
- Identify and create meaningful projects that can be executed by your team for continuous improvement.
- Hold team members accountable to achieve goals and empower them to achieve them.
- Empower the team to work independently by determining short, medium and long-term goals.
- Identify inefficient workstreams and provide innovative solutions.
- Continuously work to improve and enhance software development processes.
- Partner with business stakeholders to communicate customer issues.
- Successfully define and enforce technical standards for quality, maintainability, scalability, availability and security.
- Collaborate on software development schedules for features and releases.
- Partner closely with Product Management to ensure and deliver the best technical solutions for the product.
- Establish annual goals for an engineering team and provide manageable and achievable targets.
- Anticipate application issues and make preparations to mitigate issues before they arise.
- Evaluate current systems and assess if they are able to meet the needs of the business as we grow.
- Create a metrics driven culture, measure effectiveness, optimize for best results and share success internally.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to grow and manage a high performing team.
- Comfortable working with both creative, technical and non-technical professionals.
- Successfully communicate critical information to a large group of stakeholders and customers regarding customer feedback.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-directed and able to organize and prioritize workload independently with minimal supervision.
- 8+ years of experience in a tech environment preferred.
- Minimum 1-2 years prior people management experience.
- Deep understanding of web design.
- Proven success managing a highly engaged engineering and QA team.
- Experience building and managing large scale websites.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent recruiting capabilities.
- Have a strong understanding of collaboration with stakeholders and ability to drive decisions and strategy.
- Prior experience with PHP and AWS.
- BA/BS degree required in Computer Science or similar field.
- Ability to get things done quickly and efficiently.
