Global Communications Manager

Develop and execute engagement strategies that support Heifer International’s mission, vision and operational objectives. Facilitate effective organization-wide global internal and external communications. Provide assistance for brand management, public relations, and collateral development. This position works with all Heifer departments, country programs, Legally Separate Entities, vendors, and community partners to ensure communications continuity, accountability and alignment.
- Lead and facilitate effective organization-wide global internal and external communications.
- Develop understanding and awareness of individual and group roles regarding internal and external communications throughout the organization, emphasizing relationships, organizational culture and behavior and change management.
- Develop and cultivate relationships to build communities of support to end hunger and poverty.
- Help execute Heifer’s public relations and marketing strategies within the context of events and Heifer’s brand; help define key strategies for increasing awareness of Heifer’s brand.
- Develop and lead a Heifer speaker’s bureau, including related presentations and training.
- Build and strengthen staff capacity to communicate effectively with each other by developing and implementing appropriate resources.
- Lead and implement internal/external events in support of Heifer’s mission.
- Maintain budget and ensure successful day-to-day operations of the events planning team.
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Heifer’s programmatic and donor activities.
- Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
- Understanding of and commitment to interpreting Heifer’s worldwide mission.
- Creative and proactive professional who has the required consultative strengths to capture the trust and respect of the Heifer community.
- Experienced communications expert with superior strategic and tactical skills and instincts.
- Experience operating at high levels of an organization and comfortable interfacing with executive members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent coordination and organizational skills.
- Strong influencing and persuasion abilities.
- Proven communications success in a global organization with experience handling strategic communications planning, process management and employee communications.
- Knowledgeable of technologies and methodologies to support effective communications and development of communications materials.
- Ability to lead a team and foster and maintain a spirit of unity, teamwork and cooperation among all personnel.
- Sensitivity in working with multiple cultures and beliefs and to gender equity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related field plus seven (7) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Fourteen (14) years of related experience including ten (10) years of communications, corporate, non-profit or public relations agency experience.
