Summary
The Washington DC office of Finnegan, one of the world’s leading and largest intellectual property law firms, is seeking a Business Development and Marketing Manager to join our dynamic marketing department. This position will advise and support the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical and Chemical/Metallurgical practice groups on business development, marketing, and client relations activities. The manager will work with the chief marketing officer and senior managers to ensure that all practice and industry initiatives align with the firm’s overall strategy.
Responsibilities
- creating and supporting business development plans and related activities; - preparing responses to RFPs, RFIs, and pitches to prospective and existing clients; - assisting with the development of pricing proposals, including litigation budgets, alternative fee arrangements, etc.; - conducting research and compiling relevant information regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry and market trends to aid in the development of marketing plans, presentations, proposals, and survey responses; - identifying and pursuing profile-raising opportunities in key industry and professional publications, and other high-level media outlets; - assisting in the evaluation of practice and industry sponsorships and working with the marketing events manager to ensure their successful implementation and follow-through; - providing editorial review for collateral marketing materials, including event flyers, IP Updates, attorney biographies, etc.; - producing monthly and annual reports of marketing activities for the Chem/Met and Bio/Pharm practice group chairs and the European practice; - providing assistance on firm-wide marketing projects as needed and appropriate.
Ideal Candidate
- Successful candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field, at least seven years of experience in a professional services environment as well as chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industry experience or knowledge. - Must have excellent writing and editing skills, with experience in proposal writing and development of practice capabilities materials; strong analytical skills with the ability to organize and manage large amounts of data, both hardcopy and electronic; polished presentation and interpersonal communication skills; project management experience with demonstrated ability to lead, set priorities, deliver results, and provide advice; experience with a wide range of research tools, including Hoovers, Bloomberg Law, Lexis/Nexis, WestLaw, OneSource, MonitorSuite, and advanced Internet searching, and proficiency and/or aptitude to learn various technologies, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), InterAction, and ContactNet. Exposure or experience with SharePoint is a plus. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple tasks, complete simultaneous assignments with minimal supervision and willingness to work overtime when necessary is required.
