Summary
We currently have an outstanding career opportunity for a Technical Assistant in our Property department. The Claims Technician provides technical and administrative support essential to the operations of the designated team(s) to which he or she is assigned. Further, the Claims Technician supports the adjusters to help ensure that clients, claimants and other internal and external customers receive consistent, outstanding service. The incumbent may adjust small claims up to designated limits.
Responsibilities
* Reviews incoming claims and assigns to appropriate adjuster based on the type and nature of the loss as determined by the intake team. * Contacts the insured party to procure any additional information needed to properly set up new claim. * Makes the initial contact with insured party and claimant on new losses if the assigned adjuster is temporarily unavailable, procuring related information including, but not necessarily limited to, contracts, lease agreements, snow logs, and photos; requests police, coroner or other related reports as necessary and contacts attorneys as needed to support correct and thorough claim processing. * Requests medical records relevant to claims filed and contacts health care providers as needed to procure additional information or clarify record content. * Following claim set-up, conducts regular diary reviews to assure timely contact is made on losses and that the required documentation is captured; notifies adjuster of lapses in timely contact or reserve delinquencies or deficiencies. * Checks the national index registry and shares relevant claimant history with assigned adjuster. * Responds to client telephone calls on behalf of the assigned adjuster as necessary. * Pays independent adjuster invoices in accordance with established policies, procedures and practices. * Adjusts or settles small-dollar claims as assigned or approved, typically as back-up to adjusters. * Completes tasks assigned by adjusters and informs adjuster of resolution or completion. * Maintains and updates the Suit Log for adjuster and management perusal. * Assists adjusters with time-and-expense record keeping. * Establishes and maintains ongoing, effective communication with insured parties, adjusters and members of other EMCAS and EMA departments in the company’s and clients’ interest. * Stays abreast of office and company policies, procedures, and practices; participates in ongoing training and development as assigned or approved to assure knowledge and skills remain current and comprehensive. * Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other members of the organization across departments, divisions, and locations; functions as an effective member of the team, assisting co-workers as needed and learning from colleagues and supervisors; supports the goals of the department, division, and organization * Participates in special assignments and activities as required or approved; demonstrates initiative in the interest of the client and the organization. * Upholds the values of Engle Martin & Associates and the culture espoused by The EM Way, consistently demonstrating professionalism and integrity and conducting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on the organization. Maintains the confidentiality of company information and follows procedures for any disclosure. * Adheres to all applicable state insurance regulation requirements and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards. Assumes responsibility for maintain required license(s).
Ideal Candidate
Current adjuster’s license in the designated state(s) strongly preferred; ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgment and discretion associated with assigning and processing claims; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; thorough skill set in, or demonstrates ability to quickly master, a variety of office software, including MicroSoft Office Suite (including, but not necessarily limited to Word, Excel, Outlook), internet communication tools, Adobe, and Riskmaster. Skilled in use of internet for business research purposes; sound written and oral business communication skills with co-workers and clients; basic mathematical and fundamental accounting skills; diplomacy; fine and gross motor skills, as well as mental requirements, to operate standard office equipment, including personal computer and wireless communication and computing devices, photocopiers and scanning devices, and other routine equipment; time management, prioritization, and organizing skills; problem-solving skills; demonstrates teamwork, compassion, and respect toward others in keeping with the EM Way, as well as integrity, accountability, open and honest communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
