Summary
In this role you will assist with the rollout of a new national initiative in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that aims to increase the number of education and employment opportunities for Veterans and their families in local communities. This critical individual will be responsible for facilitating the rollout at the local/community level. This business development-like Liaison works with C-level business leaders, as well as leaders of educational institutions, Chambers of Commerce, government and non-government organizations, military installations, and VA Regional Offices to identify and facilitate local, Veteran employment, education, and training opportunities. This individual will provide vital regional support in Milwaukee, WI, which has been selected based on the current statistical data related to the concentration of the Veteran population, job growth, Veteran unemployment rates, education / vocational rehabilitation dollars spent per Veteran, etc.
Responsibilities
- Perform outreach, build a network of connections, and develop partnerships with community leadership (government, non-profits, businesses, educators, policy experts, etc.) to identify and promote Veteran opportunities - Network with and amplify both national partners and community organizations that serve local Veterans and their families to maximize their impact - Raise awareness of the benefits of investing in Veterans - Equip employers with information and tools that will help them successfully hire and retain Veteran employees - Encourage educational institutions to help Veterans use their education benefits to gain the skills they need for career success - Develop strategic plans, local implementation plans, campaign plans, and other work products as required
Ideal Candidate
**Required Skills** - Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office; expertise in Word and Excel formatting and layout - Strong written and oral communications skills with C-level leaders - Excellent interpersonal and time management skills - Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently to produce successful results - Exhibit professionalism and maintenance of confidentiality - Must be able to pass a personal background check - Must be available to travel locally and up to 15% nationally **Required Experience** - The candidate must be a member of the community with a local, established network, including community leaders (i.e. C-level business leaders) - B.A. in a business administration, economics, public administration, strategic communications or a related field preferred - Strong business development, sales, and / or project management experience developing and launching new initiatives - 5-10 years’ related work experience for the Department of Defense, VA, Chamber of Commerce, local economic development agency, or equivalent. Sales, business development, or equivalent private sector experience may be substituted for government experience. - Workforce development / human capital experience enhancing regional economic stability and prosperity.
