Summary
The Men's Merchant team is the first point of contact for Birchbox brand partners. Merchants are responsible for researching and prospecting new potential brand partners as well as maintaining and deepening existing relationships. The team works collaboratively to creatively communicate the value proposition of Birchbox and negotiate terms of engagement with Brand Partners.
Responsibilities
* Actively research, pitch and secure lifestyle products to be included in the monthly Birchbox * Manage day-to-day communication with existing and potential brand partners * Manage sales and inventory of full size products * Manage brand portfolio and product assortment * Manage negotiation of distribution agreements including margin and payment terms in the interest of business goals and strategies * Negotiate with the Planning team around open-to-buy budget * Source the best products for the monthly box based on market trends, customer feedback, and business priorities * Use analytics data as a selling tool to bring in new partners and to more effectively sample to our customers * Be accountable for data integrity of brand portfolio (maintaining updated pricing, margins, production information, etc.) * Conduct quarterly analysis and optimization of brand and product portfolio with a focus on SKU productivity, margin goals, and merchandising strategy * Present analytics presentations to brand partners after completion of sampling campaigns * Communicate brand partner priorities to cross functional teams including Content, Marketing, Creative, and Web Production
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 3-5+ years of experience in retail, business development, consulting, finance, or private equity with an incredible passion and knowledge for Men's retail (grooming, consumer goods and the luxury market) * The ability to establish and maintain strong business partnerships * A strong background in selling and negotiating complex deals * The ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks in a fast paced environment * Outstanding communication and presentation skills * Strategic and creative thinking capabilities, with advanced problem solving skills * Ambition and self-motivation
