Summary
The Chief Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing and managing emergency programs for the operation and maintenance of all equipment and physical structures and landscaping in compliance with Company standards, Federal, State and Local, codes and regulations to protect the asset, guests and Team Members, to ensure optimum operations, minimize expenses and maximize customer satisfaction. Responsibilities
**Summary of Duties:** Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: the short and long term planning and day-to-day operations of the engineering division. The Chief Engineer manages all engineering operations including building, mechanical, structural and plant maintenance and protection, grounds landscaping and maintenance, maintenance of guest rooms and public space and energy conservation. Processes and administrates all guest related concerns. **Leadership** * Communicate all policies and procedures to entire staff in a concise and effective manner * Conducts regular meetings to disseminate pertinent information and provide information including company communications, policy and procedures and local property activities, goals, etc. * Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and all Federal, State and local employment laws and OSHA regulations * Improve the level of team member satisfaction by conducting Team Member Opinion Surveys, delivering feedback and creating action plans to address individual or group concerns * Successfully perform “Manager on Duty” responsibilities as outlined by the property. * Manage, organize and prioritize multiple projects and/or tasks to meet deadlines * Develops strong customer relations through frequent communication and the use of professional, courteous and ethical interpersonal interaction * Exhibit a positive and involved team attitude to all departments and promote positive Team Member relations through an environment that encourages open communication, trust, and mutual respect with all team members for the best overall performance of the hotel. * Develop and maintain standards for the department, while adhering to Company’s core values * Understand the principles, values and processes for providing exceptional guest service * Manage a team through delegation and feedback by expanding responsibilities, suggest improvements and collaborate with others to generate ideas and improve processes. **Other Duties/Responsibilities** * Develop, recommend, implement and manage the department’s budget capital expenditure plan, forecasts and objectives consistent with maintaining a first class property and Company’s expectations * Collaborate with Team Resources by managing the development and facilitation of interviewing, staffing, new hire celebration, training and development of engineering, discipline, coaching and annual performance evaluations * Develop, implement and manage a maintenance program for the hotel. * Negotiate maintenance contracts for the hotel, the grounds and all of the equipment in compliance with Company standards, Federal, State and Local codes and regulations to ensure the safety, convenience and satisfaction of all guests, and Team Members * Protect the asset and maintain the property in first class condition * Develop, implement and direct all Emergency Programs * Ensure all equipment is maintained * Conduct regularly scheduled inspections and drills * Ensure compliance with all codes and regulations * Train and develop engineering staff to ensure compliance with all safety regulations * Maintain accurate records to ensure a safe environment which protects the asset, guests and Team Members * Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses * Coordinate renovation bidding, define the cost and scope of the project and oversee the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed for minimal cost * Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned * Actively participate in task forces and committees as requested * Uphold Brand required standards, re: maintenance and life safety systems. * Lead hotels Risk Management, safety, and security programs which include organizing and directing the emergency response team, risk management team, and safety committee * Any other duties as assigned by the General Manager
Ideal Candidate
**Education and/or Experience** * Minimum two years engineering management experience in hospitality. * High School diploma or GED equivalent * Certifications to comply with all Federal, State and Local laws * Advanced knowledge of building management/engineering. * Advanced knowledge of building trades, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and general building practices. * Advanced knowledge of facility regulations and safety standards (OSHA, EPA, ADA, DFC, NFPA) * Advanced knowledge of life safety systems * Experience with project management * Exceptional analytical abilities * Exceptional financial management skills * Valid Driver’s License ***Fire Safety Director certification preferred*** **Language Skills:** * Ability to read, write and speak the English language proficiently * Excellent grammar skills to write comprehensive and simple correspondence. * Ability to effectively communicate professionally with Team Members, supervisors, and others as required for optimum operation of the property. * Strong communication , organization, problem-solving, follow-up and telephone skills **Computer Skills:** * Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) * Ability to operate computer systems as required by the hotel * Knowledgeable with computer engineering programs **Required Abilities:** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
