The ACLU places great emphasis on the role of communications in framing the debate on its issues, building support, and increasing the impact of its work. The Communications Department is responsible for promoting the ACLU’s mission, its brand and its programs through the media, multi-faceted campaigns, digital and social media communications, publications and events.
The Web Producer will maintain the ACLU National website as an important resource for the public. The position reports to the Associate Director of Digital Communications, and is responsible for publishing content on ACLU websites, maintaining online standards, and handling ongoing updates to site content.
Responsibilities:
- Publish and update content on ACLU’s Drupal websites, which includes HTML and CSS coding.
- Manage content publishing request queue.
- Provide backup posting coverage for ACLU’s social media channels as needed.
- Perform periodic and ongoing content reviews to ensure quality.
- Handle other site update and production needs as required.
- Train staff in Drupal and HTML for assistance in maintaining and updating web content.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team that manages digital communications, graphic design, video, social media, and online campaigning.
- Assist with special projects as assigned by the Associate Director of Digital Communications.
- Collaborate with Communications and program staff to identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of our advocacy, programmatic and legislative work, and to generate email lists and social media audience growth.
- Assist with weekend web and social media publishing as part of a rotating coverage schedule.
- A minimum of three years of related experience.
- Experience maintaining large, high traffic websites preferred.
- Must be proficient in posting content via Drupal, and coding in HTML and CSS.
- Ability to multi-task, perform well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines essential.
- Some experience with Photoshop is preferred.
- Professional experience posting content to social media channels is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and writing.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the ACLU.
