Summary
The Supervisor, Inventory Accounting will report to the Senior Manager, Accounting. The Supervisor, Inventory Accounting be responsible for all aspects of the Company’s inventory accounting, including transfers, reconciliations, analyses, accounting for overhead, warehouse costs, purchase price variances and in-transit inventory, coordination of physical inventories and / or supporting cycle count activities and serving as a resource to other areas of the organization, including financial planning and analysis, retail operations and distribution.
Responsibilities
* Supervise inventory staff accountant * Manage journal entry process and ensure all inventory journal entries are recorded accurately, including, but not limited to: * Overhead capitalization * Accruals for warehouse and other costs * Purchase price and other variances * In-transit inventory * Perform month end balance sheet account reconciliations and analyze account variances to prior periods * Prepare or review rollforwards and verify accuracy of all monthly activity, including warehouse adjustments (i.e., cycle counts, damages, etc.) * Analyze cost of sales, overhead and other income statement accounts * Work closely with distribution personnel; review invoices to ensure accurate recording / coding of distribution costs * Provide support for analysis of inventory obsolescence reserves * Coordinate physical inventory counts and support cycle counting procedures * Partner with FP&A to budget and forecast overhead; assist in monitoring actual vs. budgeted information * Determine accuracy of balances, figures, calculations, postings, etc., investigate and reconcile any differences * Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting of financial results in accordance with Company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) * Provide financial support to senior management * Maintain and update inventory accounting policies and procedures * Serve as primary point of contact for auditors on all inventory related matters * Support various internal controls activities and the implementation of Sarbanes - Oxley 404 compliance requirements
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred * Six to eight years of experience, with focus on inventory accounting / control * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to perform critical analysis and thinking, prioritize and problem solve * Ability to work under pressure and multi task with time sensitive constraints * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Proactive individual who can work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment * Work effectively within the department and across departments * Desire to identify and implement process improvement opportunities * Prior experience working with Microsoft Dynamics AX preferred
