Security & Investigations Santa Ana, California Private Corporation

Our Company

Founded in 1965, Universal Services of America, through its affiliates, combines an innovative mix of tradition with advanced technology to keep pace with the evolving security and janitorial needs of today’s businesses. Universal Protection Service, Universal Protection Security Systems, and Universal Building Maintenance provide our clients with the best security and janitorial solutions, personalized customer service and unmatched value available. Universal Services of America began with one idea in mind—to provide unmatched services and solutions for our clientele. Formed as a janitorial company in 1965 serving Southern California, Universal expanded into the security industry in 1969, with the formation of Universal Protection Service. The company offered both lines of services until the janitorial division was sold in 1989. Newly added divisions included Universal Fire/Life Safety Services in 1998 and Universal Protection Security Systems in 1999. In 2000, Brian Cescolini and Steve Jones became partners with the original owners of Universal. Eight years later, they revived Universal Building Maintenance (UBM), a return to the janitorial market. UBM is now an all-green, environmentally friendly version of the original company. These divisions joined with Universal Protection Service and Fire/Life Safety to become part of the Universal Services of America umbrella. Organic client additions and numerous acquisition deals sparked unprecedented growth in revenue and employee base. What began as a small, steady startup many years ago has now become a leading security and janitorial company, with approximately 80,000 professionals servicing billions of dollars in assets nationally. The $2.5 billion company takes pride in the following national rankings: Largest U.S.-owned security provider (manned and security systems) Leading privately held security company Main security provider for commercial office and retail properties in the U.S. Always looking ahead, Universal demands green processes from all of our divisions and continues to update our technology to outpace competition. We now offer CyCop® , a web-based patrol and reporting tool that gives clients accurate data about their property and security professionals. This innovative technology enables property managers to instantly monitor their security status effectively and hassle-free in real time. Additionally, Universal offers THRIVE Intelligence™, a remote video monitoring service that gives clients the ability to secure assets with video surveillance as a stand-alone solution, or by augmenting or replacing manned security resources.Universal not only outpaces the security industry on environmental and technological levels, but also by investing in, valuing and training employees. We understand that our employees are the cornerstone behind our continued success. Thus, Universal uses a comprehensive recruitment and stringent screening process, followed by orientation, and initial and onsite training. Universal is a five-time recipient (2009-2014) of the Orange County Business Journal Best Places to Work award, which recognizes leading workplaces in Orange County based on employee surveys. In the late 2000s, both CEO Steve Jones and Chairman Brian Cescolini were recipients of the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The company earned the Corporate Citizen of the Year Award from the Century City (Calif.) Chamber of Commerce in 2008. The award recognized Universal’s commitment to serving as a “progressive, devoted, guardian of the community” and our support of local charities, including the Children’s Cancer Research Fund’s Annual Kids 4 Kids Run/Walk, the Starlight Children’s’ Foundation, the Make a Wish Foundation, and the SIERRA CLUB. Universal operates under a completely different model than other companies—not focused on cutting programs or services, nor stifled by corporate bureaucracy; our sole mission is to provide clients with the best possible security solutions, personalized service and unmatched value available in the industry. These values are what landed us where we are today and will stay with us as we head into the future.
