Summary
At Teach Plus, strong, effective communications is a key part of our mission and of advocating for the transformative power of teacher leadership. As National Social Media & Communications Coordinator, you will join a vibrant, creative communications team focused on building Teach Plus as go-to-expert on teacher voice for policy makers, influencers and the public at-large; and on knowledge and information for teacher leaders nationwide. You will report to National Director of Communications and Media and will work closely with Senior Graphic Design Coordinator and members of Teach Plus operations team on a range of communications products. You will also collaborate with members of Teach Plus regional teams across our seven sites.
Responsibilities
**Social Media** * Act as lead social media communicator to Teach Plus key stakeholders, including teachers, policymakers and education influencers. * Grow followers/likes on Teach Plus social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other) through consistent, informative and innovative audience engagement, and through creative social media campaigns. * Continually monitor all relevant news sources and refresh social media platforms accordingly. **Content Generation & Edit** * Act as lead content creator of the weekly NewsBlast and monthly Newsletter with education policy/practice updates and Teach Plus news. * Collaborate with Director of Communications on edits of teacher-written op-eds and teacher bios. * Copy edit external products in Teach Plus’ communications portfolio, including Annual Report, research reports, policy briefs, op-eds, press releases, and media alerts and pitches. **Press** * Research media outlets, and create and update media lists on an ongoing basis. * Collaborate with Director of Communications on media outreach, specifically pitches to local and regional media. **Project Management** * Manage ongoing updating of teachplus.org, keeping website content informative and fresh (i.e. Home page, teacher successes, regional and program pages, newsroom etc.). * Project manage production of Annual report, national reports, policy briefs and other written materials from national and regional teams. * Keep social media, earned media and website metrics, and library of hits up to date. * Manage communication between national and regional teams to ensure steady flow of web updates. * Support overall communications effort, including coordination with like-minded organizations, event support, and other communications needs as they come up.
Ideal Candidate
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a passion for writing. * Experience conceptualizing and executing effective social media campaigns. * Exemplary editing and proofreading skills. * Passion for transforming K-12 education and for supporting teachers and students. Strong interest in education coverage and education policy news. * Comfort with technology preferred. Knowledge of Salesforce, Campaign Monitor, and Cision media database a plus. * Skills as a “figure-outer” and “self-starter.” * Strong project management and organizational skills. Attention to detail and ability to set and meet deadlines. * Comfort working in a highly entrepreneurial environment, including working and collaborating remotely, and the willingness to be flexible. * Optimistic, relentless and solutions-oriented. * Sense of humor is a plus! * Teach Plus is seeking a candidate with minimum two years of experience in the field of communications, ideally in social media, website and network communications. * The ability to understand the issues we work on and translate this into effective social media engagement is critical.
