Summary
The Administrative Director of Clinical Technology and Biomedical Engineering oversees evaluation, procurement, implementation and lifecycle management of medical devices and equipment for purposes of diagnosis, monitoring, and therapeutic support throughout all care delivery environments of Stanford Health Care system. This executive is charged with delivering innovative, effective, and highly available technologies along with appropriate infrastructure support and application architectural integration to enable the highest levels of quality, service, and value in our care delivery. The leader will direct best-practice project and enterprise change management efforts to ensure continuity and regulatory compliance of mission-critical clinical systems. The executive will collaborate with executive leadership to align information technology and clinical initiatives with short- and long-range business needs, clinical demands, and regulatory compliance requirements. He or she will serve as end-to-end liaison to all business units, forging outstanding stakeholder relations, building cross-functional consensus, and facilitating technology adoption. This role is responsible for overseeing and directing the operations of the clinical technology department on an enterprise-wide basis which includes 24/7 support for hospitals, clinics and affiliates. As such, the role will appropriately manage staff and annual capital and operating budgets, and will participate in strategic planning related to clinical technologies.
Responsibilities

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s). * Operational management of clinical technology department to support the diverse medical equipment and business requirements of a multiple site enterprise of hospitals, clinics and affiliates * Strategic clinical and information technology planning and direction * Enterprise program and project management * Cost control, avoidance, and reduction * Human capital management * Resource planning and allocation * Vendor and supplier contract negotiation, in collaboration with IT contracting group * Project governance * Design and planning for new hospital construction * Coordination and integration of services with department and across other departments * Development of technology and service standards * Creation of and chairing , executive steering committee meetings both hospitals to develop and review the business plan for new information technology and clinical technology equipment, including improving coordination of services, improving service delivery, and addressing new problems and issues. * Interpret and operationalize enterprise-wide practice standards to meet State, Federal, and the Joint Commission regulatory requirements * Alignment of department's services to support organizational mission, priorities and goals **Core Competencies** * Infrastructure and architecture standards * Stakeholder relationship development * Change management and risk mitigation * Technology support, service, and staffing models * Industry thought and opinion leadership * Strategic planning * Executive relationship management
Ideal Candidate
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. **Education:** * Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering or in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Doctoral degree preferred. **Experience:** * Broad and extensive and progressively responsible directly related work experience in administrative and/or managerial positions and a minimum of 10 years of Clinical and Information technology management. **License/Certification:** * Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities** These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification. * Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions which promote safe, efficient and economical patient care * Ability to manage large and complex teams * Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus between individuals, including executives, at both SHC and LPCH SCH * Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make effective oral presentations and prepare concise written reports to a variety of audiences that consists of clinicians and administrators. * Ability to solve problems, identify solutions, and provide leadership in crisis and disaster situations * Expert and strategic knowledge and understanding of information technology, electronics and biomedical engineering methodologies, electronic medical record interfaces, telemedicine technology, and future disruptive technologies applicable to healthcare industry * Expert and strategic knowledge and understanding of therapeutic, diagnostic and monitoring medical systems, equipment design and maintenance * Expert and strategic knowledge of computer systems and software used in clinical areas * Knowledge of and experience with complex project management process and systems * Ability to work in tandem with hospital planners, architects, and builders * Proficiency in computing concepts that include distributed, centralized, mobile, and we-based computing * Proficiency in network architecture concepts that include LAN, WAN, SAN, wireless, and virtualization * Proficiency in network protocols that include TCP/IP, FDDI, ISDN, DSL, ATM * Working knowledge of software technologies that include C, SPICE, Lab View, Math Lab, DBASE, SQL, HTML, HTTP, Java **Physical Requirements and Working Conditions** * The Physical Requirements and Working Conditions in which the job is typically performed are available from the Occupational Health Department.
