Summary
Shopkick is searching for an seasoned Sr. Engineering Manager to oversee the most valuable properties in our organization while leading our engineering team to success in scaling a server system that is used by millions of users. To succeed in the role you must have a passion for consumer facing mobile technology as well as experience with backend systems and applications, be a strong believer in collaborative iteration and mentorship, be a data driven decision maker, and a proponent of high use experimentation.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a team of 6-10 highly collaborative engineers * Inspire your team to produce the best work they can and help further their technical growth * Guide and assist your team of engineers in their career development * Aid and review your team’s designs and solutions * Mentor your team on defensive coding and designing decoupled, reusable modules * Some hands on client or server software development
Ideal Candidate
* 10+ years of experience designing, building and implementing complex systems * 5+ years of experience running engineering teams with a strong preference for people who have experience with iOS, Android, and Server/Platform development * Comprehensive understanding of recruiting and hiring * Strong coding ability in an object oriented language (Java, C#, C++, Python etc.) * Deep experience with Python is a definite plusExcellent team player with strong communication skills (verbal and written) * Experience using relational and NoSQL database systems (MySQL & Cassandra preferred)Familiarity with open source web frameworks (such as Pyramid, Rails, or Django) * Experience designing for mobile/server growth and scalability * Ability to examine and evaluate client and server architectures * Solid understanding of sources of performance bottlenecks in service oriented architectures * Deep understanding of the uses and characteristics of common server infrastructure technologies (such as Zookeeper, Memcached, Redis, Hadoop)
