(New York, New York)Project Sunshine is a nonprofit organization that provides free educational, recreational, and social programs to children facing medical challenges and their families. Project Sunshine empowers a dynamic and dedicated corps of over 15,000 volunteers to bring programming - recreational, educational and social service - to 100,000 children facing medical challenges and their families in 175 cities across the United States and in four international locations: Canada, China, Israel and Kenya.
The Chief Development and Communications Officer will oversee the institution’s expanding communications and development platforms, working to significantly raise awareness of the organization’s mission and to strengthen and diversify its fundraising base. Reporting to the Executive Director, he/she will serve as a key and collaborative member of the senior leadership team, playing a crucial role in the institution’s dynamic growth; will liaise with philanthropy and event advisors; and will provide managerial oversight for two development support staff and other consultants as needed.
Develop and Implement Communications and Content Strategy * Develop communications and content strategy to bring dramatically increased visibility to organization’s mission and achievements through diverse print and electronic communications. Projects to include upgrading website, newsletters, and reports * Oversee and write media releases, working with Program staff to coordinate selected media opportunities * Supervise improved constituent database tracking and interface * Create, and oversee preparation of, inspiring and persuasive presentation and marketing materials - Manage and Oversee Expanding Development Platform * Provide talented managerial oversight of a comprehensive and diversified annual development strategy, with concomitant improved infrastructures, for individual, special event, and institutional giving * Spearhead expansion of institution’s private and corporate foundation grant portfolio by managing and developing grants distinguished by appropriate research and identification of prospects; compelling proposal narratives, timely reporting; and effective written communications and interpersonal relations with philanthropic personnel * Work closely with experienced event advisor to ensure continuing success of institution’s high-profile annual gala and golf outing * Collaborate with, and support, program staff on corporate volunteering partnerships, by creating solicitation and proposal materials * Work closely with Executive Director and Board Chair to engage in cultivation and stewardship of relationships with donors
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with minimum of 5 years in relevant development/communications positions of increasing scope and responsibility
- Proven experience in successful project management and staff mentoring/management
- Exceptional writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Up-to-date knowledge of fundraising ethics and codes of conduct
- Flexible and adaptable style and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to juggle competing deadlines and schedules
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge database software
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of discretion and diplomacy
- Enjoys working as a part of a team and promotes coordination and cooperation
