Summary
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Networking and Monitoring Infrastructure Analyst to join Enterprise Infrastructure Services. OIT, with its diverse staff of approximately 300 employees, is responsible for the central information technologies, resources and infrastructure that support the University's research, teaching and administrative missions. The Analyst provides a leadership role in delivering advanced networking/monitoring services to the University. The position ensures the availability, integrity, security and reliability of mission critical networking/monitoring systems, and is primarily involved with network security and monitoring system management. As part of the Networking and Monitoring Services group, the analyst manages and monitors network infrastructure, analyzes and resolves network problems and improves the network and system infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Administer and support networking/monitoring systems, including SIEM and remote access management, network eDiscovery and monitoring tools, and Cisco and Aruba systems * Monitor and manage configuration and operation of network core devices, wireless infrastructure, monitoring tools and systems, and connectivity to service providers * Lead the analysis, design, installation and management of network infrastructure and systems, including configuration, tuning, monitoring, storage and integration of networking/monitoring environments * Monitor, analyze and verify scalability, performance, high availability and data integrity of networking/monitoring services * Write programs and scripts to automate and improve networking/monitoring services * Troubleshoot advanced operational issues and collaborate with University and OIT staff on projects * Proactively seek development in professional and technical skills * Keep abreast of industry trends and make recommendations for improvements * Perform network upgrades, maintenance and resolve emergency issues outside of normal business hours * Write and maintain network/monitoring standards, policies, documentation and logs * Investigate and respond to reported abuses involving networking systems * Work with OIT teams to design and implement redundant and survivable networks and monitoring systems according to disaster recovery and emergency planning * Monitor bulletins for security vulnerabilities and bug fixes; apply critical fixes, configuration changes * Create automated processes to monitor applications, send alerts, minimize failures, optimize performance * Review/test backup and restore procedures; review network/system log files and resolve issues * Maintain confidential data in the strictest confidence and ensure privacy, security and proper use
Ideal Candidate
* 5+ years of experience managing or supporting medium to large network/monitoring infrastructure * Experience in network design and operations and extensive understanding of protocols including TCP/IP * Demonstrated skill in solving complex network problems, particularly around packet switching, IP routing, wireless communications and IP-based telephony/VoIP * Experience with Cisco, IOS configurations, controller-based wireless networks, and various operating systems and platforms * Excellent oral and written communications skills, ability to work independently and in a team * Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, respond to shifting priorities and work efficiently under the pressure of critical problems and deadlines The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully. **Preferred Qualifications** * Familiarity with monitoring and network management tools and security systems including VPN, SIEM and Intrusion Prevention Systems * Experience with Aruba wireless equipment and Airwave * Ability to write programs in Perl, Python or C
