Summary
PlayStation in San Mateo, California is looking for a contract Sound Designer to work with a dynamic team of creative, game audio, professionals on a AAA PS4 project. The ideal candidate will have experience with Unreal Engine, game audio middleware, and ProTools. We emphasize creativity and value a healthy work/life balance.
Responsibilities
The right candidate will have at least three years of game audio experience and the drive to create award wining game audio. * Create high quality audio content for 1st party product development projects including sound effects and dialog. * Collaborate with the sound team and game development team to create sonically rich, aurally satisfying, high-quality games. * Field Recording * Record real-world sounds for product development * Studio Recording * Requires a solid understanding of recording techniques for vocals and musical instruments, microphone placement and having the ability to direct talent. * Foley Work * Create new sound effects in the studio using various recording techniques and props. * Digital Sound File Editing * Edit sound assets using a Digital Audio Workstation. * Work includes dialogue editing, sound effect region creation and file naming. * Digital Audio Post Processing * Sound format conversion, EQ-ing, looping, mixing, and adding digital audio effects, normalization and sound balancing. * Sound Effect Scripting * Prepare sound effects using both propriety and non- propriety tools for use in the game engine. * Define volume, pitch, pan, delays, layering randomization, and enveloping, to facilitate the triggering of sound effects in games at runtime. * Mastering * Use EQ and compression to create high quality finalized material. * Audio Post Production for FMV sequences * Using professional audio editing tools record, edit, synchronize and master audio for full-motion-video content. * An understanding of EQ, dynamic range and compression techniques
Ideal Candidate
* **Recording:** The use of microphones, audio processing equipment, and recording devices (both in the field and in the studio). * **Editing:** The use of professional audio editing tools like (but not limited to) ProTools, SoundForge, WaveLab, Waves Plugins, sequencers, etc. * **Mastering:** The use of signal processing devices such as compressors, limiters, equalizers, * Some experience mixing in multiple formats such as 5.1, quad, etc. * Imaginative use of audio production tools, Foley performance and capture, props, recording techniques, etc. to create high quality original content. * Experience in scripting game sounds using commercially available sound middleware and/or internal/proprietary game development tools such as Sony's SCREAM, Wwise, FMod, Maya, Unreal Engine, etc. * Experience with version control software- Perforce, Subversion, GIT, and related software. * Knowledge or familiarity of scripting languages such as LUA, Python, etc. a bonus but not required. * Knowledge of field recording techniques preferred. * The ability to work collaboratively with the other members of a game development team. * Proven record of professionally written and verbal communication skills. * At least 1 year of professional work experience. * Bachelor's degree or Certificate in Audio Engineering, Music, or equivalent preferred.
