Intern-Video Systems Engineer

We've come along way from the old flickering film reels of 1931. Midcontinent Communications was born in the era when "talkies" — films with actors actually speaking lines on camera — were first becoming a global phenomenon.

Obtain an overall knowledge of digital video processing and distribution systems. Develop the technical knowledge to assist with the build-out, maintenance, and support of Midcontinent’s digital video systems.

* Provide support of the MC Video and RF product distribution system through knowledge of analog and digital Video, VOD, ad insertion and conditional access systems; to assist in the build-out and maintenance of the video product distribution system. * Assist Video Engineers in executing internal projects and processes directed toward promoting the health of the overall network; including but is not limited to: Preventive maintenance, EAS, status monitoring, and lab testing. * Work with Video Systems Engineers to ensure Midcontinent’s video services are operated and maintained in a manner consistent with the requirements of the services carried on the systems. * Develop a basic knowledge of QAM modulation, conditional access, content acquisition, encoding, rate shaping, multiplexing, encryption, MPEG-2/4, and ad insertion. * Keep management and team members up-to-date of engineering activities, issues and progress. * Develop a working knowledge of satellite video transport and network systems. * Assist with system component installation as necessary. * Assist Video Engineers in developing specifications and parameters for the design of cable network. * Compile timely, comprehensive, and accurate reports as requested. * Communicate effectively and professionally in all forms of communication both internally and externally when required. * Adhere to Midcontinent Communications privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy. * Maintain regular attendance as required by your position. **ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** * Function as an effective team member while supporting the efforts and concepts of other departments. * Support the mission, vision, and values of Midcontinent Communications. * Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility, responsibility and confidentiality in all areas of responsibility. * Possess an enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented approach towards work and all work projects. * Possess strong problem solving and decision making skills while using good judgment. * Multi-task and change from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. * Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with co-workers and management. * Identify opportunities for improvement while creating and implementing viable solutions. * All employees are required to actively follow Midcontinent policies and procedures. * Perform other duties as assigned.

* Enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor Degree program towards Electronic Engineering / Technology, Computer Science, or Network Engineering required. * Computer and networking experience required. * One year of hands-on technical experience desired.
