Summary
The main purpose of this position is to plan, design, implement and support Scottrade’s corporate data communication hardware and software.
Responsibilities
* Provide advanced support for branch and home office network systems including routers, switches, and network support equipment. Interface with end-users and network operations personnel to implement network management criteria and specifications. * Interact with vendors to ensure adequate service, support, and maintenance. * Work with wiring contractors to oversee accurate installation of new wiring and cables. * Participate in small to large maintenance projects and support projects. * Manage up to large maintenance projects and small to medium support projects. * Support architects, engineers and technicians in peer IT groups. * Perform on-call duties autonomously for all but a few incidents. * Plan new network connections (including new buildings, new telecommunications closets and departmental connections). Provide tactical and strategic input on overall network planning and related projects. * Monitor and maintain equipment to ensure non-interruption of service. Report any performance issues to the Network Engineering Manager, or Sr. IT Management. * Maintain proper system documentation and diagrams as it pertains to change management and control. * Review, plan, and evaluate network systems. Proactively monitor service level performance of hardware and software. Report any performance issues to Senior Network personnel and/or the Manager of Network Engineering to ensure that failure of one segment does not have a significant impact on the whole system. * Perform periodic analysis of data systems and make recommendations to management. * Provide documentation/project tracking and management reporting. * Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment. Recommend network improvements. * Ensure that network specifications comply with industry standards and protocols. * Maintain network management packages. * Perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:** * Advanced level understanding of networking concepts, practices and procedures. * Advanced ability to create and track metrics. * Advanced level troubleshooting skills showing lead role in ASAPs and other project efforts. * Advanced level technical skills in TCP/IP, routing, design concepts. * Intermediate skills in process improvement, presentations, and cost analysis. * Intermediate knowledge of IT industry, IT Security, Database concepts, Telecom, programming, and project management. * Intermediate skills mentoring to Network Engineers, Network Telecom technicians and others. * Intermediate ability to be the technical lead on projects of medium to large scale. * Intermediate technical knowledge of load balancing methods and configurations. * Understanding of data flows and the configurations for the components of our network domains. * Advanced knowledge of Scottrade company and trading and banking industries preferred. * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and mentor others. * Ability to deliver a high level of customer service. * Ability to handle multiple tasks with excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail. * Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Foster company success through a professional appearance, being courteous to customers and all Scottrade associates and by having a positive attitude. **Physical Activites & Requirements, Visual Acuity, Working Conditions And Noise Level:** * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, hear, lift, reach, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. * The physical requirements of this position are considered to be light work (Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects). * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less in order to view a computer screen). * The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate (business office with co-workers, copiers, shredders, printers, etc). **Contacts With Others:** * Contacts with other persons within the department on routine matters as well as regular contact with other departments, or outside the organization furnishing or obtaining factual data requiring ordinary courtesy and tact. May need to utilize specialized communication skills in order to maintain goodwill with internal and external contacts. **Minimum Education & Experience:** * Bachelor’s Degree in MIS/Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred. * 4+ years experience in installation, tailoring and configuring of network equipment required. * 4+ years experience in trouble shooting Network problems in a local and remote environment required. * Experience in a high availability 24 x 7 environment required. * General ITIL or Service Management knowledge preferred.
