Summary
The Manager – Reporting overseas a team of quality/performance/operational/financialperformance reporting analysts, EPIC clarity report writing staff, and senior performance reporting consultants who support service line executives, service line leaders, administration leadership, and other internal clients around the Health System in their reporting needs. This includes the retrieval, reporting, and analysis of both clinical, quality and business operations data. This position interfaces with all levels of leadership in the service lines, cross-campus departments, and the Board of Directors. The role also supports various external reporting processes and data requests for publications the hospital and health system. This position reports to the Director of Analytics – Reporting for the Health System.
Responsibilities
* Managerial responsibility for a team of quality/performance reporting analysts, EPIC report writers, and data architects as appropriate. Managerial responsibility may include external contractor staff. * Support and manage EPIC reporting in support of the service lines and provide sustainable reporting solutions for end-users * Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of self-service reporting tools for assigned internal customers at various levels across the health system using the selected contemporary reporting and presentation layer technologies (Tableau, Microstrategy, QlikView, and/or other) * Oversee the development and maintenance of dashboards that measure performance of various clinical areas * Direct staff to support performance improvement, process improvement, quality improvement, and cost-savings projects with accurate data and reports with an emphasis on the triple aim (cost, quality, and patient experience) * Manage team to develop and implement ongoing clinical quality and business comparative performance reports including the management, analysis and dissemination of performance information * Manage the delivery of high profile management reports utilized at the Board level * Monitor publicly reported comparative data and identify opportunities for improvement using evidence based approaches * Manage acquisition and provision of data from different data sources to support assigned operational areas, business support functions, and service lines. * Identify, analyze and recommend improvements to work processes through new or changed operational procedures or expanded use of new or existing software products and participate in vendor evaluations and user groups and provide feedback and enhancement recommendations * Manage one or more data architects in addition to the reporting staff to work with ITS and help configure the data structures for effective and actionable reporting * Select, hire, train, assign, and manage the performance of department staff, including terminations of staff as appropriate * Manage assigned portion of budget through effective use of internal staff and purchased services * Manage team workload/requests and effectively prioritize work with internal customers when faced with competing demands * Ensure timely completion of deliverables in support of external submissions * Maintain an environment contributing to a motivated and productive staff * Serve as leader, mentor, consultant, and educator for the hospital departments and in all areas of related responsibility * Manage projects as assigned and meet target dates * Ensure patient privacy and confidentially practices are followed with respect to use and distribution of data * Adhere to all JMH policies and procedures.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in business, operations research, or other quantitative discipline. * 7+ years of analytics and/or reporting experience * 3-5 years of experience performing reporting and/or analytics in a healthcare and/or life sciences setting (large tertiary care hospital, academic medical institution, sizable physician network, integrated delivery system or life sciences company) * Proficiency in finance/accounting * Experience managing and leading analytic and/or reporting staff at the function level and project level * Experience in coordinating reporting/analytics projects involving multiple staff members within work group and/or cross-functional resources * Advanced knowledge of PC applications including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and a statistical package. * Project management experience in the technology space, reporting, or analytics disciplines * Superior analytic skills with the ability to develop robust quality checks on work products * Strong organizational and interpersonal skills * Excellent consultation and communication skills * Experience in relational databases, query languages, and structuring data content to facilitate effective reporting (universes, semantic layers, and reporting objects) * Experience developing self-service reporting solutions using new generation reporting tools (Tableau, QlikView, Microstrategy and/or other contemporary reporting technology solutions in the MS suite such as SSRS) * Training/certification or experience in EPIC and/or other equivalent other EMR/EHR platforms * Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, with a drive to deliver outstanding results * Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff at all levels across different areas of organization and influence decision making and plans * Strong business judgment along with ability to prioritize team work based on a business case that supports improvement on key metrics and strategies (financial, quality, clinical performance, etc.) * A desire to grow professionally and intellectually and a commitment to the growth of others **Additional Preferred Qualifications:** * Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MPH) * Six-Sigma experience/certifications * Proficiency and experience working with statistical process control (SPC) techniques and deployment of LEAN Principles * Experience in leading cost/quality/process improvement projects and initiatives * Experience in building a centralized reporting department * Experience in implementing a new reporting layer and technology on existing reporting infrastructure (Tableau, QlikView, Microstrategy) * Data architect experience
