In 1970, entrepreneurs David and Barbara Green, along with their young family, began making miniature picture frames in their garage. A few years later, on August 3, 1972, the Green family opened the first Hobby Lobby store with a mere 300 square feet of retail space. Hobby Lobby has not stopped growing since.
Summary
The Hobby Lobby Distribution Center services 600 Hobby Lobby Stores across the nation. The campus, located in Oklahoma City, consists of the Warehousing, Manufacturing, Transportation and Corporate departments. The transportation needs of the distribution center are provided by Hobby Lobby's private fleet, which is also based in Oklahoma City. The warehouse operation, which spans over 8 million square feet, houses two types of distribution systems - Basic and Seasonal. The Basic Warehouse System stretches over 7.5 million square feet and handles 70,000 skus, processing weekly replacement orders for all Hobby Lobby Stores. The Seasonal System occupies around 1 million square feet and pushes seasonal merchandise also to the entire range of Hobby Lobby Stores. The Warehouse Operation has an hourly employee base of 2,500 employees with 80 members of management, headed by the Assistant Vice President of Warehouse Operations, who reports to the Senior Vice President of Distribution.
Responsibilities
* Implement and support the policies and practices that are consistent with the philosophy of the company. * Improve the operational excellence through the training and motivation of the employees both hourly and salary. * Evaluate processes/procedures with the goal of potential improvements through suggestions and recommendations. * Potential involvement in studies to improve operational efficiency of the entire Distribution System. * Primary role to manage efficiently and ensure orders are pulled timely and accurately for delivery to the stores. * Oversee all aspects of freight receiving, order filling, safety and organization. * Oversee any other area of responsibility that may be temporarily or permanently assigned.
Ideal Candidate
* Education: High School Diploma/G.E.D. * Experience: 5-10 years practical experience. * Physical: Physical activity ranging from walking, standing, climbing, lifting, and the ability to be 'Hands On' as needed. * Understand the importance of daily SAFETY in all areas. * Must pass a drug test. * Must pass a background check. * Must pass a pre-employment test * COMPETENCIES * Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel software applications * End-user experience in AS400/Green Screen applications is a plus.
