(Boise, Idaho)The Material Handler is responsible for managing inventory and moving goods on and off trucks, between the plant warehouse and the various production lines. They will ensure that materials are on hand for timely start-ups according to the production schedule, that materials are properly counted and or/weighed and wrapped and labeled at the end of production runs. They will ensure that proper documentation is completed and submitted for all material movements/transfers. Support production lines throughout the run by replenishing materials as needed, including both raw goods and packaging materials.
- Read production schedules, inventory reports, and work orders to determine type and quantity of materials required, availability of stock, and order priority
- Confer with department supervisors to determine overdue material (those items which may critically impact operations) and inform supervisors of material status
- Use pick-list reports to identify and move material required to complete job orders, always applying "first in, first out" rule for rotation of materials
- Locate and distribute materials to specified production areas, manually or using handcart, hand truck, or forklift
- Examine materials received, verify order numbers, and check discrepancies, such as damaged or unmarked goods
- Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves as needed
- Perform required housekeeping to maintain 5S and keep work areas clean, such as sweeping floor, putting trash into trash containers and picking up product from floor
- Maintain material needs on production lines by replenishing supplies (raw materials and packaging materials) as needed throughout the course of the run
- Ensure all materials that are moved to or from the warehouse are properly counted/weighed, wrapped and labeled, and documented as required
- Actively participates in HPS and updates KPI's in the work area. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times
- Work in close proximity to coworkers
- Verbally communicate instructions, problems, etc., to coworkers, supervisors and employees from all departments
- Meet Company attendance standards
- Comply with all safety, health and environmental regulations as prescribed by law
- Perform powered lift truck safety inspections and follow safety protocols
- Knowledge and use of SAP
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Competencies & Knowledge:
- Communicate in English to give and acknowledge instructions and problems
- Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as needed
- Work in a fast paced environment in close proximity to others
- Distinguish colors
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in various units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form
- Work well with others in stressful situations and meet deadlines as necessary
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- 3-5 years packaging experience in manufacturing environment; experience in the food industry a plus
- Basic math and reading skills required
- Basic PC skills required
- Basic mechanical and problem solving skills required
- Ability to measure and read scales and thermometers; understands units of measurement
- Ability to work safely on any shift (8-12 hours/day), weekends and overtime
- Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision
