Summary
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the leadership and direction of the fiscal functions of the company. Major responsibilities include effectively managing the financial processes, internal controls, financial information, and capital management; reliable, accurate, and timely reporting; and customer service. The Chief Financial Officer will play a key role in developing, monitoring, and evaluating overall corporate strategy with the CEO; and strategic management of the organization with emphasis on bottom line performance, working capital, and enhancing shareholder value; and will provide useful financial insights to help make better decisions about formulating and executing strategy. Critical outcomes include supporting the executive team with key financial information and operational analytics, and driving a culture of accountability in managing the enterprise and adding value to operating businesses across the enterprise. The Chief Financial Officer also has reporting responsibilities to both the Audit Committee and the Finance & Investment Committee of the Board of Directors. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities
* Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, and evaluates the company’s fiscal function and performance in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, statutory accounting principles as established by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and other regulatory and advisory organizations; * Participates in the development of the company’s mission and vision, businesses, and services as a strategic partner; * Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning and introduction of new strategies and provides strategic financial input on decision making issues; * Advises executive management and the Board of Directors on financial strategy and its impact on company objectives; * Ensures adequate and appropriate levels of capital and financing to meet strategic and operating objectives * Ensures the optimum financing for the company and the financial solvency and stability of the company * Ensures future visioning and planning by capitalizing on market, industry, and world trends; * Provides technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline * Initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash position * Advises from a financial perspective on any contracts into which the company may enter * Manages company investments with consultation from Investment Advisor to the Board of Directors * Monitors the budget process including preparation of budgets, recommending plans, scheduling expenditures, and analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions * Provides continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets; * Monitors financial reporting and taxes (state, federal, premium tax, fees, surcharges, etc.) * Maintains relationships with regulators, banks, investment managers, and reinsurers * Evaluates and manages the Finance department and plans for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provides individuals with professional and personal growth.

**Knowledge, Skills and Talents:** * Experienced financial executive with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus. * Demonstrated leadership capacity with flexibility, adaptability, emotional resilience, and efficiency of execution. * Excellent negotiating skills. * Creativity, forward-thinking, and self-motivation. * Ability to motivate others. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills on all levels, including the Board of Directors. **Education and Experience:** * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. * Advanced degree a plus and Professional Certification. * Fifteen years of accounting/finance experience in insurance accumulated either from working in the insurance industry, auditing insurance companies, or a combination of both.
