Staff Accountant for Financial Reporting

NJM Insurance Groups General Accounting department is seeking a Staff Accountant to work in our Financial Reporting area with at least 3 years of experience.
- Complete the assigned financial statements, supporting work papers and other financial reports in accordance with the Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) and NAIC Annual/Quarterly statement instructions.
- Prepare fluctuation analysis of financial statement amounts.
- Ensure the accuracy of all data and compliance with the SSAP and NAIC Annual/Quarterly statement instructions prior to distribution to upper management.
- Incorporate all SSAP regulations in financial reports. Review all existing, new or amended SSAP to ensure correct application.
- Review notifications from the NAIC Interested Party emails for any action needed. Work with the Business Process and System Support team to ensure NAIC updates to statutory accounting practices are evaluated and effectuated.
- Peer review of assigned financial statements, supporting paperwork and other financial reports.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 3+ years of accounting experience Advanced computer skills (i.e. Excel, Word, Crystal Reports). PeopleSoft experience a plus
- Must be flexible, self-motivated and eager to take initiative, capable of working on multiple assignments and adhering to deadlines
- Strong working knowledge of statutory accounting principles
- Strong project management skills and the ability to present alternatives and recommendations.
- High degree of organization and ability to prioritize tasks
- Effective communication (written, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal skills and ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature.
- Ability to identify opportunities to improve existing conditions and processes
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative/team environment
- Must be able to Synthesize complex and diverse information; collects and researches data and use intuition and experience to complement data; designs work flows and procedures.
- Experience with making decisions and exhibiting sound and accurate judgment
- Strong commitment to accuracy and thoroughness while finding ways to improve and promote quality.
- Ability to take on additional responsibilities
Preferred:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Accounting experience in the Insurance Industry (Property and Casualty or Life and Health)
