Summary
Field Service Technicians – Level II will provide FMC Measurement Solutions customers with technical expertise and solutions. A Level II Field Service Technician will respond to customers via phone and on-site to troubleshoot, perform diagnostic tests, calibrate, perform repairs, and provide technical knowledge on most Smith Meter products as well as peripheral products and systems. From a technical perspective a Field Service Technician Level II will assist with project estimates, write job quotations, execute invoicing to goal, and provide technical support. Perform in-house product repair as required, warranty administration, and electronic board repair. Assist with the creation and maintenance of product literature, as well as contribute to customer training curriculum. Assist with managing departmental assets (e.g. tools, test fixtures, and demo equipment). Accurately report departmental utilization, recovery, repair activity, and warranty cost to the Field Service Manager. Performance objectives are to maintain quality standards, productivity, and profitability through the performance goals of the department set by the Company.
Responsibilities
* Respond to domestic and international field service requests per the direction of the Field Service Manager and per deployment procedure. * Be on call to provide emergency assistance to customers all hours of the day, year round including holidays, but excluding personal vacation. * Provide technical support via telephone, e-mail and fax to our customers, distributors, and sales offices. * Provide feedback to Engineering and Quality Assurance on quality and product performance issues and provide technical expertise to all departments. * Achieve service revenue growth through billable hours and high level of utilization. * Assist the Field Service Manager with activities to ensure proper practices, efficiency, quality standards, and the highest possible level of customer service. * Receive and follow-up customer calls and outstanding issues. * Assist personnel with difficult problems. * Participate in the development and diagnostic techniques and procedures. * Participate in the design and construction of test equipment to be used on designated products. * Provide assistance in prioritizing repair activity, incoming material, and technical support to insure customer satisfaction. * Perform special assignments as required by management. * Engage productively in: - Repair of Smith Meter products (e.g. meters, valves, presets, electronic instrumentation, etc.). - Provide assistance and training on calibration of electronic and mechanical products. - Rebuild and refurbish electrical and mechanical products. * Complete and maintain accurate repair reports, and attendance records. * Assist with the calibration activities on all equipment submitted for certification. * Support the Quality Improvement Process. * Maintain tools and test equipment to diagnose and repair Smith Meter products.
Ideal Candidate
* High School diploma and 2 year associate degree or 4 year degree with a focus on mechanical or electrical competencies. OR equivalent experience. * Typically 3-5 years in a Field Service Technician role with prior experience working in electrical, mechanical, or similar vocational training preferred. * Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills. Must possess proper soldering techniques, electronic component diagnostics, and use of electronic circuit test equipment. * Must possess superior electronic and/or mechanical repair aptitude. Familiarity with microprocessor based circuitry and programming techniques. Leadership capability and good aptitude. Knowledge of various aspects of a Field Service Organization. Strong Personal Computer skills.
