Summary
As a Labor Relations Director, you will play a lead role as you design and administer employee programs and services for the Labor Relations group. You will assist project personnel in preparing for and conducting pre-job conferences and labor-management meetings with labor unions. You will work in a collaborative environment within our HR team to provide timely guidance to the labor relations project staff on construction projects for problem resolution and relationship maintenance. You will oversee the handling of employee grievances, office harassment complaints, and disciplinary actions.
Responsibilities
* Negotiating project and specialized labor agreements with various building trades unions * Participating in the adjustment and settlement of labor disputes. * Developing and recommending to higher management the approval and implementation of the company’s Code of Discipline. * Promoting a healthy labor-management relationship. * Developing and drafting the employment contracts for regular, probationary and contractual employment at all levels. * Analyzing collective bargaining agreement to develop interpretation of intent, spirit, and terms of contract. * Advising management and union officials in development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices. * Representing management in labor contract negotiations to reconcile opposing claims and recommend concessions, or proposes adoption of new procedures. * Monitoring implementation of policies concerning wages, hours, and working conditions to ensure compliance to labor contract terms.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in labor relations, business administration, human resources, or related field. * Minimum of 10 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (14 years in lieu of degree) * Minimum of 5 years negotiating labor contracts as the primary negotiator 5 years of significant experience in a complex labor relations environment with multiple unions * 5 years of experience administering national labor agreements on a project term basis * Master’s degree in labor relations, human resources, or JD * High volume negotiator (200+) over career * 15-20 years of experience * Previous experience for labor relations in the construction, defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DOE) sectors * Collective bargaining experience
