Summary
Supports Carilion's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities. Responsible for the referral coordinator process for Carilion Clinic physician offices. Ensure all referral requests are scheduled timely and in accordance with established procedures. Includes the scheduling of patient visits, testing, procedures and surgeries.
Responsibilities
* Maintains thorough knowledge of clinical information system(s) for patient scheduling, registration, and reporting functions. * Ensures all insurance, demographic, and eligibility information is obtained and entered into the appropriate system(s) accurately and in accordance with established procedures. * Respond to questions, requests and concerns regarding the status of patient referrals, care coordination or follow-up status. Contact patients regarding pending referrals and/or diagnostic testing. * Verifies referral and authorization requirements are met according to insurance and policy standards. Completes referral process within required timeframe and resolves billing inquiry questions effectively. * Schedule, problem solve, communicate, and coordinate referral appointments with outside specialists. * Documentation and tracking of referral information in the electronic medical record system. * Provides the highest level of customer service to patients, visitors, clinical staff and fellow employees. Adheres to customer service policies and standards as set forth by management at all times.
Ideal Candidate
**Education:** * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Associate Degree or continued administrative education preferred. **Experience:** * Prior experience in a physician office/medical office. * Previous registration and/or medical insurance experience preferred. **Licensure, certification, and/or registration:** * None Required **Other Minimum Qualifications:** * Must be customer driven, have strong grammar, spelling and punctuation skills, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of office procedures and equipment, proficiency in computer data entry/keyboarding, ability to use electronic medical records and good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Knowledge of Microsoft software applications preferred (Word, Excel). * Ability to multi-task essential.
