Summary
  • Support the underwriting staff in acquiring and maintaining profitable business through customer service and rating and processing of underwriting files.
  • Learn basic underwriting skills, including risk analysis, rating, pricing, and agency management. This position is an entry level transitional role leading to advancement in an underwriting role.
Responsibilities
  • Answer office main line incoming phone calls and assisting clients with inquiries
  • Distribute incoming and outgoing mail
  • Review and index of new business prospects for program practice acceptability into database system
  • Set up pre-renewal files by transferring documents, preparing solicitation notice and pulling specific industry reports
  • Look up loss run requests and order Motor Vehicle Reports
  • Process Oden Legal Notices send to agent and insured
  • Process policy changes, cancellations and reinstatements within assigned authority level
  • New business and renewal pre-rating of accounts into rating system. Utilizing manuals, rating plans, schedules, and additional information as necessary to enter applicable coverages.
  • Reviewing policies and endorsements to ensure policies clearly reflect the terms and conditions agreed upon
  • Order and maintain office supplies
  • Participate in structured underwriting training events and programs to increase skill set
Ideal Candidate
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Client focus the ability to effectively determine specific client needs and to provide value added solutions.
  • Must be able to quickly evaluate accuracy of information and data and successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Intellectual curiosity the ability to consistently consider all options and is not governed by conventional thinking.
  • A team builder, someone who understands that success is dependent upon the performance of the team and not individual team members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, business partners and organizational peers with a focus on timely and meaningful exchanges of information.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines is essential.
  • Proven track record of proactively taking the initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills. The ability to read and write English fluently is required.
  • Must demonstrate a desire for continued professional development through continuing education and self-development opportunities.
  • Proficient computer literacy in Microsoft programs including Excel, Word, & Outlook and comfortable learning new computer systems.
  • General knowledge and work experience of commercial insurance preferred.
