Summary
The School of Nursing, Office of the Academic Dean is seeking faculty with a background and passion for Nursing Education, Staff Development to work with our team from our campus in Tempe, AZ. Leveraging their hospital, teaching and curriculum experience this role will provide guidance and instruction in their content area to administration and various stakeholders. Program Directors are full-time faculty/staff engaged in teaching, mentoring, scholarship and oversight of curriculum design, assessment & delivery in service to the School, College and University. We define scholarship as the dissemination of knowledge.
Responsibilities
* Teaches multiple concurrent classes and demonstrates exceptional teaching practices as identified by the Faculty Handbook and University administration. Teaching about 12 hours each week (about 3 courses) * Experience with Distance Learning and Online classes, as proven by successfully teaching at least six online classes strongly preferred. * Responds to student issues and concerns, evaluate students, for retention, and assess student work abilities and to facilitate the learning experience. * Communicates effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees, and external parties. * Provides guidance and instruction in a content area and as a remediation expert (aka, a SME) * Participates and may lead task forces and committees, including co-sharing Academic Program Council, to represent and address academic concerns to campus management team and/or central administration. This may include participating in the planning, implementation, and coordination of campus and/or regional activities to maximize service quality effectiveness and efficiency. * Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures as they relate to the training and development of faculty throughout the campus and/or division personnel as it relates to faculty scheduling and remediation activities. May also participate or lead the faculty recruitment, selection, and orientation activities as needed. * Assists central administration academic affairs personnel, including the Dean from respective program(s), in the development and review of curriculum as needed or requested. * Researches instructional strategies to inform continuous improvement in the student experience for the purpose of implementing effective instructional strategies and refining faculty requirements and best practices. Mentoring faculty in a content area to ensure instructional quality. * Implements instructional strategies appropriate for the learner and content, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs. Uses student data to remediate and scaffold development. * Engages in professional development activities to maintain currency in educational research, trends and best practices. * Maintains active involvement in academic discipline, such as participation in professional organizations, academic conferences, and/or community service. * Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
Ideal Candidate
* Doctorate in nursing or education or related field, MSN in nursing * At least 5 years of practice in nursing or some kind of nursing staff development experience within a hospital (director of education or similar role would be ideal). * Three or more years working or teaching in the specific “Content Area” * Five or more years of teaching experience in higher education setting required. * Certification: CNE preferred * Education & Licensure as follows: * AZ (clear and unencumbered) RN license is required prior to start date –will consider RN licenses from compact states and all other states prior to a potential start date * Master’s degree in Nursing. * Terminal degree appropriate for teaching in a higher education organization. **Additional Qualifications** * 6-9 Master level credits in curriculum development, adult learning, instructional design, or teaching-learning strategies preferred * Able to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in their specialization. * Able to demonstrate knowledge of current educational research, trends and best practices. * Ability to convey a professional image, as well as effectively represent the organization as appropriate in its relationship with the community. * Ability to work independently managing multiple priorities and tasks for to deliver required results efficiently and effectively. * Ability to demonstrate a high level of problem solving and decision making. * Ability to demonstrate an excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees, and external parties. * Ability to be onsite to provide guidance and instruction in a “Content Area”
