Kroger Hiring En Masse

In a relatively tough job market, it’s big news when any employer adds thousands of new positions. Kroger, the nation’s largest supermarket chain, announced today that they will be doing just that, adding 14,000 new positions nationwide.

These new positions will range from full-time managerial roles to part-time associate roles. Across its 2,800 stores, Kroger employs 431,000 individuals, and they have created nearly 75,000 jobs in just the past eight years.

Kroger will begin initial interviews for their new positions this Saturday. If interested in a position, one can apply at jobs.kroger.com, and then show up at a hiring location on Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

While most of the positions being offered are store-based, the retailer emphasizes that many in corporate positions at Kroger started off in lower ranks. This list of individuals would include Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s CEO, along with many others in executive ranks.

Kroger is looking to hire individuals “who are passionate about making a difference for customers and communities,” according to Tim Massa, Kroger’s group vice president of human resources and labor relations.

Many college graduates may not consider working at a supermarket chain or retail establishment, but as highlighted, Kroger— and many other retailers— like to hire for more prestigious positions internally.

Working for the nation’s third biggest publicly-traded employer— behind Walmart and UPS— isn’t a bad thing to put on your resume either.
