Summary
As the Home Improvement Category Manager, you’ll lead our largest set of categories — like Local Moving, House Cleaning, and Interior Painting — and nurture their growth and sustainability in regions across the country. You’ll help make it easy for our customers to find pros in every category—and just as easy for our pros to get hired. You will also partner with other Thumbtack teams (e.g. Product, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, and Customer Service) to define and achieve our goals for the Home Improvement business.
Responsibilities
* Develop overarching plan for Home * Identify critical questions to answer across Home categories * Lead team in conducting qualitative and quantitative research to answer key questions * Articulate ‘what it will take to win’ in Home * Define and prioritize strategic opportunities in Home * Define and assess opportunities (identify metrics of success, measure potential impact, and decide how to sequence changes) * Develop and launch roadmap for Category Management initiatives * Partner with Product and Marketing teams to incorporate learnings into their roadmaps and launch new initiatives * Iterate: track progress, make adjustments, and document ongoing learning * Support success of broader Category Management initiatives * Guide and mentor Associate Category Managers on management of their categories * Partner with Director of Category Management as a leader on the team
Ideal Candidate
**About you** * You are a strategic thinker: you can articulate the most important questions to answer, and lead qualitative and quantitative analysis to understand user needs and distill insights * You translate strategy into action: you can turn insights into high-impact Product and Marketing tests and initiatives * You are a collaborative team leader, who is comfortable both defining the team’s goals and diving into the day-to-day details * You are excited about the opportunity to coach and invest in a team of 3+ Associate Category Managers * You have a genuine passion for Home Improvement **Requirements** * 5+ years of relevant work experience: preferably 2-3 years with a top-tier strategy consulting firm and 2-3 years of experience in tech * Experience managing direct reports * Ability to develop strategic insights and translate them into actionable product and marketing ideas * Ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, and Customer Service teams * Excellent analytical skills + verbal and written communication skills * Passion for Home Improvement **Bonus points** * Experience with services marketplaces * Expertise in Home Improvement
