Summary
The Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSES) Manager has the responsibility for managing the HSES programs at the Crystal Lake facility.
Responsibilities
* Maintain all required HSES program records and legal documents. * Develop and maintain company HSES programs at the Crystal Lake facility. * Actively serve on the plant management team to develop corrective actions for identified risks. Track corrective actions to completion in accordance with the facility corrective action tracking program. * Remain current in field of HSES as it relates to laws, best practices, and HSES equipment. * Maintain and update SDS reference database and manuals for the facility. Attend and participate in Corporate HSES Staff Meetings. * Listed below are the specific responsibilities of this position and is a representation, but not necessarily all-inclusive. Additional training/experience as required on the position’s Training Record and department’s training matrix. * Must be able to speak professionally with vendors, insurance carriers, auditors and government agencies. * Monitor and assist the facility with compliance of all applicable company environmental, safety and health standards as well as all federal, state and local regulations. * Develop compliance plans for air and other HSES permits. * Complete timely federal and state reports including Tier II, Form R, Air Emission, Waste, Storm water, and OSHA 300, 301 and 300A forms. * Work with the highest ethical standard for legal compliance and demonstrate a true passion for employee safety. * Manage plant HSES loss prevention programs. Develop policies and procedures to ensure that environmental, security, occupational safety, and health standards are maintained throughout the Crystal Lake facility. Utilize IH equipment to determine employ’s exposures to noise and air contaminants. Perform fit-testing for respirator users. * Regularly inspect plant for unsafe conditions as they relate to equipment, process, and facility. * Professionally train, counsel and advise personnel on all identified safety risks, and establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment for everyone at the plant. * Conduct new employee HSES orientations. Lead and oversee the monthly HSES training program. * Schedule and assist the plant with having safety committee meetings. * In cooperation with area managers and first-line supervisors investigate all injuries, environmental releases and serious near misses. * Immediately report all injuries, environmental releases and serious near misses to the Plant Manager. Submit a written notification of all injuries, environmental releases, and serious near misses to the corporate HSES department using the online incident reporting program. * Submit all accident/injury claim reports to the Workers Compensation carrier. Monitor return to work instructions given by health care provider and advise area managers and supervisors on appropriate return-to-work activities. * Under the direction of the Corporate Director of HSES, participate in special assignments as they relate to corporate HSES audits, new facility pre-startup safety reviews, and HSES training programs. * Actively participate in all safety activities taking place at the facility including capital projects, safety observations, inspections, training, audits, and incident investigations. * Assist with plant audits as needed. * Perform special projects and other responsibilities as needed.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety or Health, Environmental Sciences, or related field. Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA and IEPA regulations. **Experience and Skills** * 5-7 years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting working with health, safety, environmental and security programs. * Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. * Strong knowledge of computer software applications. CHMM and/or CSP preferred. **Physical Requirements** * Exposure to laboratory and chemical manufacturing environments. * Subject to noise, odor, dust and vapor discharge from production process. * Must be able to climb stairs and fixed ladders up to 20 feet. * Requires the ability to wear PPE including hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes. * Supervisory Responsibility and Reporting * Requires direct contact with all employees in manufacturing setting, site HSES professionals from other sites, and corporate HSES staff. * This position reports to the Corporate Director HSES. * Empowerment and Decision Making: * To be successful in this position, the person must be able to act independently and follow the appropriate procedures and practices set forth by Chemtool/Lubrizol.
