Summary
St. Thomas School is seeking a talented, proactive, and dynamic Director of Facilities and Transportation to help us maintain our leadership in 21st century facilities design and function. If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear from you! **Job Summary:** Under minimal supervision, oversees facilities maintenance of the School building and grounds, custodial services, special projects, emergency planning, and supervises facilities support staff. Coordinates and executes on all aspects of student, faculty/staff, and parent transportation and parking issues. Anticipates, recommends, plans and implements physical plant/campus services, projects, and improvements necessary for the School to continue to deliver an exceptional educational experience to its students.
Responsibilities
* Monitors daily performance of physical plant services—ranging from special projects to deferred and routine maintenance and custodial work—with an emphasis on skills in learning systems (from blueprints, diagrams, other building-related documents), astute assessment of conditions, good communication, accountability, and effective relationships with School employees * Supervises Facilities Custodians and the school’s outsourced cleaning crew; directing and monitoring their work as needed. * Performs maintenance and custodial work as needed * Advises the Director of Finance and Operations on all issues related to physical plant, emergency planning, the plant budget, and campus security * Reports to the administration as requested on all aspects of physical plant, short-and long-term maintenance needs of campus buildings and grounds, energy management, and facilities use * Working with the Director for Finance and Operations and business office support staff, deals with all aspects of budget for facilities, including annual budget setting, cost controls, reviewing purchase orders for costs, vendor choices, proper approvals, and bids when required * Works with contractors as needed—soliciting and evaluating bids, recommending firms, and monitoring performance during the contracted project * Tracks maintenance work planned and accomplished; maintain quality control records and the reports and plans for all areas of physical plant responsibilities * Coordinates support for School events both during the school day and evenings/weekends as needed, based on the Facilities calendar and requests from internal and external groups * Acts as OSHA safety officer and as coordinator for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and emergency management; coordinates annual first aid/CPR/pathogens workshops for staff * Manages the School’s safety program; arranging regular evacuation drills, promoting safe practices throughout the School, scheduling and chairing regular Safety Committee meetings with minutes, and serving as the School’s primary liaison with local first responders * Serves as an on-call responder for off-hour school emergencies during designated times * Serves as the School’s transportation manager; manages the school’s buses and bus operations, coordinates transportation for field trips and other School outings as needed * Serves as the school’s principal liaison with the City of Medina and staff as needed to ensure compliance with Special Use Permits and required reports * Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development * Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the School’s constituencies * Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the School’s documents * Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities * Performs other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
**Required Education & Experience:** * High School Diploma or GED required * Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university preferred * Commercial Driver’s License and training preferred * 5+ years’ facilities management experience **Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:** * Good understanding of general construction and engineering * Good understanding of safety regulations, OSHA, and the ADA * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Ability to maintain confidential information * Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment (Windows 8 or higher), using Office (version 2010 or higher); ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology * Ability to draft plans and specifications using the school’s Autocad software system; proficiency in the use of Delta digital controls for the school’s HVAC system; and proficiency in the use of the school’s Bosch-DiBos security system. * Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff * Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds * Ability to work outside in all weather * Some local travel required
