Position Summary:
Alta Vista Solutions is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer for New York providing technical expertise in support of the Resident Engineer for Quantity calculations, submittal reviews, and other duties related to suspension bridge retrofit/construction. This individual will assist in the collection of samples, gathering of information, analysis of data, and the preparation of data. In addition, the Assistant Resident Engineer will assist in the engineering designs and technical research, including plans, specifications, and reports.
This is an exempt position out of New York, NY.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs engineering calculations, submittal review, shoring review, quantity calculations, and similar engineering tasks.
- Monitors and reviews contractor construction schedules.
- Interprets contract plans and specifications with contractors and other project participants.
- Inspects and approves contractors’ work and assure adherence to contract requirements.
- Assures project’s quality control and quality assurance standards.
- Prepares daily quality control reports, maintains a daily diary, photo log per contract, and other documentation as required.
- Prepares and updates project logs for submittals, RFI’s, and other change orders.
- Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project and maintains material and inspection records.
- Performs and analyzes testing of constructions materials, including concrete, soil, and asphalt.
- Coordinates with contractors and agencies about different tasks and projects.
- Collaborates with CAD technicians, field technicians, designers, and other team personnel to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
- Estimates and tracks project costs in order to execute a sound and efficient project, with the ultimate goal of developing good project management techniques.
- Performs field assignments including resident engineering, construction observation, site inspections, and conducting field assessment of properties.
- Explain scopes of work (RFP) and obtains quotes from vendors.
Skills & Abilities:
- Effective written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team involving staff, clients and outside agencies.
- Ability to analyze, interpret data.
- Ability to meet sensitive deadlines.
- Able to carry out multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of CAD and GIS programs such as AutoCAD.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Civil Engineering required
- New York P.E. required
- ACI Certification preferred
- Minimum 10 Years’ experience in field inspection and administration of suspension bridge retrofit/construction
- Good interpersonal skills and capable of developing technical writing, and communications skills. PC skills required.
- Valid New York driver’s license required
- Limited travel may be required
