Job Posting Details
About Magoosh
Magoosh started in 2009 with four co-founders and a few computers. Today, our team is growing fast and our products are used all over the world in more than 180 countries. Millions have studied with us, downloaded our apps, read our blogs, and watched our videos. Every day we work with thousands of students to help them get the scores they need to get into the schools they want.
Summary
Our Engineering team is currently just two people, so from day one you’ll own projects and contribute directly to code running in production. We value collaboration, positive feedback, and mentorship. We work together to write code with good design, proper names, clean levels of abstraction. We work at neighboring desks to share tips and advice, and we have an unlimited budget for programming books. We ship quickly and get feedback from the students who use our platform whenever we can. We use Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Coffeescript, AngularJS, PhoneGap, AWS, RubyMotion, and pick up new tools that keep us fast and happy.
Responsibilities
There are a ton of features and products we want to build. Here are a few things we’re working on right now to give you an example of what to expect: * **Challenge a friend** in our vocabulary builder app so that students can compete against each other while they learn words. * **HTML + CSS optimization** to make the entire Magoosh website easily accessible for mobile devices. * **Building new SAT/ACT apps** in react native to let our students watch lessons on their phones. * **Online voice input** for TOEFL students who are practicing their English so that they can record their responses to speaking prompts.
Ideal Candidate
* Computer science fundamentals (familiarity with at least one backend programming language like Python, Ruby, or Java, and some experience with web dev basics - HTML/CSS/JS) * Eager to learn a variety of new frameworks and practices * Experience with backend and/or frontend web development. Could be from a personal project or school assignment. **Bonus points** * Rails experience * BS in Computer Science (or equivalent) * Previous technical internship * An eye for good aesthetics and user experience * Passion for education!
