Summary
This is a Supervisor position responsible for dispatching drivers, communicating delivery times with internal customers, handles calls from our drivers on all delivery and pick up issues, coordinates the back haul schedule delivery, plans and coordinates routing schedules of each FreshPoint delivery truck, and performs other related transportation duties as required. Supervisors are responsible for training and educating drivers in methods / procedures and hold them accountable for results while utilizing manpower efficiently and equitably to achieve the goals of the department and satisfy the customer.
Responsibilities
**Essential Functions** * Supervises the daily work and safety of Delivery Associates, including adherence to standard operating procedures, adherence to planned routes, and providing safe and efficient customer service. * Ensures Delivery Associate compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (i.e. DOT, OSHA, etc.) and ensures that electronic logs are kept current and accurate. * Supervises labor hours and consumable supplies within budget. Prepares work schedules including extra work days and shifts as needed. * Supervises the proper selection utilization of Company assets in support of the Delivery department. Coordinates required repairs with proper departments as necessary. * Reviews delivery functions and productivity reporting. Suggests efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assist with implementation of delivery changes. * Interprets trains and consistently enforces company policies, protocols and procedures including but not limited to food safety, DOT, record keeping, etc. * Communicates with Sales Management and Marketing Associates to collaboratively resolve any customer or delivery opportunities or issues. Visits customer locations and meets with customers to address issues and assess delivery difficulty. * Maintains associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings; maintains on-going interaction; keeps open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitors associate morale; and submits and responds to ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement. * Interprets trains and consistently enforces Company policies and procedures. * Coordinates efforts with Safety department to aid in training, conducting associate observations, up-dating preferred work methods, conducting accident investigations to determine root causes, and routine safety inspections. Makes recommendations for disciplinary action and/or behavior modification where required. * Performs management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, and/or performance reviews. * Performs the duties of associates supervised and other related duties as needed. * Complies with local, state and federal regulatory agencies {i.e. OSHA, GFS, FDA, USDA, etc.} **Essential Responsibiliies** **Dispatching Activities** * Dispatches route’s to be taken by each driver in the delivery products to customers. * Prepares loading and driver sheets showing the route assigned and ensures that each driver is provided an accurate and understandable listing of stops for any particular day; updates this information by completing a weekly and master loading and driver sheet listing for use in planning and evaluation activities. * Identifies and assigns 2nd run orders to the appropriate delivery driver in an effort to ensure that the delivery is assigned to the driver who will be arriving first back to the OpCo. **Fleet Activities** * Implements and monitors a preventative maintenance program to ensure cost effective maintenance pursuant to manufacturers’ specification. * Responsible for Pre-trip/Post-Trip inspection compliance and training. * Perform vehicle inspections to ensure aesthesis, safety, and mechanics are in working order / meet our standards. * Keeps records of vehicle maintenance and repairs as well as vehicle related expenditures. * Monitor and examine reports for accuracy on fleet vehicles, prepare reports on vehicle utilization and maintenance. * Assists in the development of the fleet services budget to include a review of past year income and expenses; adjusts and administers all fleet service purchases, including parts, tools, and supplies. * Follow up and check all repair work performed to ensure completeness. **Check-in Activities** * Communicate with management on any driver / delivery issues that arise during the course of the shift. * Daily discussions of peaks / pitfalls and assist in problem solving all issues with drivers. * Collect driver’s route bags upon return; check in route phone, drop keys, and truck keys. * Daily detailed review of all the required documentation upon driver’s return to the warehouse. * Assist with handling walk-in customers and coordination of will call order pulling with warehouse associates. * Record delivery driver mileage, travel time, process COD’s, key manifests, etc. * Provides transition communication by relaying critical information to all evening personnel / management. **Safety and Security Activities** * Manages the maintenance of the trucks, driver check-in and transportation areas by ensuring all areas are kept clean and uncluttered of debris (i.e. paper, pallets, etc.), yard cleaning schedules are adhered to, and reports any safety hazard issues to Safety Manager to ensure they get immediate attention. Ensures that all staff complies with Sysco policies and procedures concerning the safety and security of the fleet and transportation areas in an effort to reduce accidents and product loss. * Ensures all employees receive proper training by the Safety Manager in the safe operation of automated equipment, proper ways to safely execute daily tasks, and works to ensure driver loads are ergonomically efficient. * Responsible for reviewing daily reports on fleet safety checks, contacting the Transportation Manager and Safety Manager immediately of any equipment in need of repair and removing the equipment from use in an effort to reduce accidents, injuries, and fleet damage. * Enforces policies concerning warehouse security, to include shutting and locking any warehouse door not in use, maintaining established will call hours, and monitoring for incidence of product theft in an effort to reduce product loss or incidence of theft.
Ideal Candidate
* High School Diploma or equivalent required with an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. * One or more years’ experience working in transportation or logistics experience is required. * Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License {CDL}. * Meet Sysco USA Standards for Driver Candidate MVR {CDL}. * Qualify for Sysco casualty pooling program. * Maintain Sysco Personal Auto Limits. **Certifications and/or Technical Requirements:** * Intermediate computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite {Word, Excel, PowerPoint}. * Obtain a North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver License within 6 months of hire. * Complete Sysco CDL Defensive Driving course within 30 days. **Abilities and Skills** * Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. * Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. * Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings. * Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner. * Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments, operating companies and Corporate in a proactive and constructive manner. * Ability to work in a disciplined manner and capable of following established procedures, practices and comply with local, state and federal regulations. * Ability to manage the pressures and stress associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues. The associate may occasionally be required to travel to other Operating Companies or the corporate office as business needs dictate {i.e. training, business continuation, etc.}. The associate is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The vibration and noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
