Summary
Accountable for the execution and performance of the ocean operations within the Cluster in accordance with corporate objectives, policies and ocean procedures, meaning operational efficiency and excellence. Responsible to ensure that the ocean product quality performance expectations within the Cluster are achieved. Also responsible for the Ocean Product volume growth, revenue growth, profitability and customer satisfaction within the Cluster.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for Ocean operational P&L within the Cluster and the achievement of the targeted revenue/margin objective through new and existing business. * Responsible for Customer Service excellence / efficiency. * Responsible to meet or exceed Ocean budget. * Work towards exceeding productivity targets. * Plan and implement appropriate resources (staffing, training, equipment, and systems) for the satisfactory Cluster goals / results. * Provide the Cluster with daily guidance, leadership and overall support on any issues relating to operations, communication, revenue enhancement, standardizing procedures, systems applications, and executing processes to meet customer needs. * Work directly with station management in establishing Cluster and / or local goals within the parameters of the North American Ocean Business Plan. * Execute policies, plans, and programs to meet anticipated organizational needs in the areas of functional responsibility. * Provide leadership, assistance, and product training to staff in order to meet company and Cluster goals. * Review and evaluate Cluster P&L performance and establish short term goals to address any budgetary shortfalls. * Assist the Cluster with sales presentations, customer bids, and the promotion of the overall ocean product. * Develop carrier customer relationships and ensure that service levels within operational responsibilities are being maintained. * Actively work with Cluster / local sales to close new Ocean customer opportunities. * Regular (min once a month) BD pipeline reviews to define ocean opportunities and provide support with specialist Ocean knowhow that will allow to close the opportunity. * Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, ISO guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements. * Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement for all areas of responsibility. * Conduct annual performance reviews for all staff within department. * Address all employee performance problems promptly and directly in accordance with personnel policies of the Company. * Perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Education & Experience** * High School Degree or GED required. * Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related degree preferred; or a combinations of work experience, education and completion of the LDP Program. * Minimum seven years experience in similar progressively responsible roles. * Minimum five years industry experience preferred. * Minimum five years in a supervisory or managerial role **Certifications and Licenses** * None identified for this position * Travel is required at least 10% of the time in this position. Travel identified is approximately 100% domestic (within the United States) and 0% international (outside of the United States). **Languages and Communication Skills** * Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. * Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds. * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. * Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees and customers. **Computer Skills** * Computer literate * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific related software applications. **Other Skills/Experience** * In-depth knowledge of and expertise in ocean products and services. * Demonstrated success in leading, supervising, managing and developing managers, senior staff and high performance teams. * Excellent planning, time management, collaboration, decision making, organization, presentation and negotiating skills. * Strong background in sales and marketing and a proven track record in business development and growth. * Demonstrated success in managing (KPI’s) Key Performance Indicators. * Demonstrated success in problem solving through use of data and information metrics and improvement to performance process. * Proficient in project management methodologies with a focus on managing solution driven strategy plans to achieve goals. * Ability to manage the financial aspects of the region including purchasing, budget preparation and review, financial reporting and monitoring expenses. * Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to persuade, influence, negotiate, and make formal presentations in meetings and training environments. * Strong interpersonal skills including diplomacy and patience.
