Summary

The DogVacay Front-End code base is written using a variety of libraries and frameworks such as: jQuery, Backbone, Handlebars, Gulp, Grunt, Browserify, Jasmine, SASS as well as native JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We are constantly looking to see if new technologies fit into our business strategies like Node, React, Babel, WebPack, etc. Our applications are deployed on Amazon Web Services and we have a PHP web tier that interfaces with our backend Java Service API's. We are currently in the midst of redesigning our application on the desktop and mobile web platforms and you will be directly involved in that initiative. In many cases, you will have the opportunity to build products from the ground up and you will have the opportunity to make front-end design and architectural decisions that have the potential to significantly impact the trajectory of the business.

Responsibilities
  • Document and communicate front-end development best practices.
  • Build new and maintain existing features.
  • Daily communication between all stakeholders including but not limited to UX, Product, Backend, and various departments.
  • Create libraries and frameworks to support various systems.
  • Convert mockups, and user stories into full fledge products.
  • Implement unit tests to help increase code coverage.
Ideal Candidate
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of development experience.

Skills/Requirements

  • Must have a solid foundation in programming and computer science.
  • Fluency in core front-end languages such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML.
  • Deep knowledge of CSS extension languages such as SASS, Less, etc.
  • Experience with JavaScript task runners such as Gulp or Grunt.
  • Experience using Node & Express.
  • Ability to understand and write code that will be usable both on the server and the browser.
  • Experience with responsive design and knowledge of its best practices.
  • Must be very comfortable with agile development practices like unit and integration testing and the ability to break a big feature down to small components.
  • Experience with high traffic, consumer-facing websites is preferred.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
