Summary
The Dean, Student Central reports directly to the Metro/Campus President and is a member of the Executive Committee. The position also has dotted line relationships to the Dean of Academic Affairs and/ or Dean of University College for matters related to academic advising. The position also partners closely with the Director of Admissions in assuring effective and productive processes and “hand-offs” of students from Admissions to Student Central.
Responsibilities
* Provides leadership and overall management to the Student Central Department in assuring successful and efficient processes and outcomes for DeVry University in areas of persistence, start rates, customer satisfaction, accounts receivable, and others. * Establishes effective partnerships with other key managers, i.e., Director of Admissions, Dean of Career and Student Services, to assure world class customer service. * Prepares and manages annual departmental staffing and operational budget and quarterly forecasts. * Establishes, promotes, and assesses world class customer service practices and processes to assure student satisfaction levels and organizational objectives. * Provides positive working environment and recruits, hires, coaches, develops, manages, and assesses the performance of departmental staff, either directly or indirectly. * Establishes mechanisms for tracking, reporting, and assessing outcomes such as accounts receivables, credit loads per student, start rates, customer satisfaction, and persistence for each Student Central team/pod and individual employee. * Takes lead role in the coordination and training of the implementation of an effective customer service plan. * Works closely with all departments, including DEM, Academics, Registrars and Student/Career Services in assuring positive student experiences. * Oversees the management of the Housing Program for the Campus through external vendor. * In conjunction with direct reports develop, implements and monitors Student Central. Develops, implements, and monitors work schedules that provide effective coverage to ensure quality customer service. * Partners closely with DAA and Program Deans in reviewing and revising processes in regards to registration, academic appeals, withdrawals, program changes, etc. * Ensures audit compliance with University and government regulations including Title IV. * Identifies and shares best practices with the department members to ensure that all staff members continuously provide and improve the DeVry student experience. * Designs and presents any special reports/projects for accreditation and state approval process. * Completes other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
* Master’s degree in Business, Management, Finance, or related discipline required. * A minimum of 7-10 years of combined professional experience required in at least two or more of the following areas: * Management. * Business processes. * Student finance (knowhow or strong working familiarity with FERPA laws in a college/university environment and in the application of federal regulations in financial aid programs). * Student services. * Customer service. * Academic advising. * Accounting/financial administration. * Demonstrated experience in successfully managing employees at department manager level required. * Strong customer service orientation required. * Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications required * Experience in working with large management databases required. * Work experience in an academic environment preferred. * Communicates with impact both verbal and written in an accurate, understandable and succinct manner while adapting communication style to your audience. * Proactively solves problems through asking questions, listening to responses, verifying information, considering alternate conclusions and staying solution-focused. * Consistently displays leadership integrity through supporting the DeVry Purpose, Vision, and Values; is accountable for actions and consequences. * Builds inspired teams of talented people through a collaborative and positive approach to work.
