Summary
We’re looking for someone to join our Finance team in New York and help us with a range of responsibilities to scale our company and grow our accounting team. The core of this role evolves around the monthly close process and build up of the in-house accounting team. You’ll also work on other monthly and ad-hoc exercises and projects. This role will report to the VP of Finance and will have a Staff Accountant and out-sourced bookkeeping firm to manage. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-funded, growing NYC startup.
Responsibilities
* Lead month-end close and preparation of the financial reporting package including but not limited to month to month financial and operational metrics and monthly reconciliations of balance sheet, GL and bank accounts * Own the close calendar responsibilities and due dates * Own all accruals, AR/AP, COGS schedules/bookings/calculations ? * Liaise with other departments in researching and answering questions related to financial results * Detailed variance analysis on a monthly basis * Understand all transactions affecting assigned accounts and investigate any inconsistencies through to resolution * Prepare schedules/documentation for independent external accountant and tax advisors * Research issues, clarify information, and prepare supporting data ? * Provide support for the annual audit in accordance with GAAP including footnotes * Responsible for detailed analysis and schedules for annual tax returns prepared by big four accounting firm * Provide oversight and validation of expense reimbursements and travel expenses * Identify stages in which accounting team should ramp up along with company growth * Ad hoc projects
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting * A minimum of seven years of financial Accounting experience * Experience with ERP systems (Quickbooks, NetSuite, Intacct) * Highly developed MS Excel skills * Strong analytical and communication skills * Strong organizational skills and highly detail oriented * Ability to work independently and be flexible to work collaboratively as part of a team * Experience managing a team during the monthly close process * CPA preferred * Public Accounting and in-house experience preferred * Systems savvy; ERP implementation experience preferred * The commitment, energy and attitude required to work in a rapid-growth, always-evolving startup environment
