Summary
Position Summary: The National Director of Marketing and Communications for Compassion & Choices raises awareness of and builds a base of supporters around priorities within the strategic plan. The director will lead the development and implementation of an integrated marketing and communications strategy and budget, working in concert with policy/advocacy staff, field, client support and organizational leadership. Reporting directly to the Chief External Affairs Officer, the Director will also provide counsel on overall strategic direction of Compassion & Choices’ programming as well as national marketing and communications issues. S/he will serve as a key member of the Program Implementation and Resource Allocation Team. The NDMC is responsible for planning, developing and implementing the Organization’s marketing strategies, brand building, marketing communications, and public relations initiatives, both external and internal. The NDMC manages the development of collateral materials and services (online and offline), media relations, and Communications support for C&C’s priority programs. S/he functions as the Organization’s overall brand manager and directs the efforts of the marketing and communications staff. S/he coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of the Organization. The Communication’s department serves staff and volunteers in 13 locations from Hawaii to Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
Core duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): * Develop and oversee implementation of an integrated marketing & communications, plan and budget that achieves Compassion & Choices’ strategic priorities. Balance and manage the needs of internal and external constituencies and audiences. * Participate on Program Implementation and Resource Allocation Team (PIRAT). * Oversee or directly provide communications support for media advocacy, field/client services, state and federal policy initiatives and fund-raising efforts. * Support state-based campaigns to enhance local communications capacity and align with national strategic goals and programs. * Develop and implement branding, marketing, and product opportunities that position Compassion & Choices as the national leader for enhanced end of life care and choices. * Implement and monitor style and content norms for messaging that appeals to national audiences and increases the donor/membership base and financial support. * Lead the marketing/communications team to execute a wide range of tactics including media advocacy/outreach, development and distribution of print collateral, web and related social media communications, social marketing campaigns, branding/marketing campaigns and product merchandizing. * Set and maintain standards for a highly articulate and compelling Compassion & Choices voice that infuses all copy. Write and/or edit content for print and online collateral to ensure excellence in content, style, syntax, vocabulary and grammar. The NDMC is responsible for the style and accuracy of all C&C communications. Ensure the delivery of products and services in a manner that best meets the needs and expectation of internal clients. * Coordinate public opinion research efforts to refine targeting, messaging, messengers, and other elements of strategy. Ensure implementation and compliance of branding and messaging guidelines that unify Compassion & Choices work and coordinate its communication activities throughout the nation. * As necessary, serve as a spokesperson and a key liaison with partner organizations. Ensure the accurate and appropriate representation of the Compassion & Choices brand in all materials and activities.
Ideal Candidate
Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in Marketing/Communications or related program (required). Advanced degree preferred. * Ten years of direct experience and demonstrated success in managing a national marketing, communications/public relations program in a national advocacy organization or an analogous private sector organization. * Non-profit experience desired. * Proven writing and editing skills. Must write well quickly and under pressure.
Compensation and Working Conditions
Reports to Candy Vande Ven, HR Director

Working Conditions

Travel: Must be able and willing to travel (overnight and possible weekends) for to various work settings (i.e., meetings, conferences, etc.). 50% of travel. Travel costs and mileage are employer paid.
