About Clara
Clara is a new kind of lender that harnesses the efficiency of technology and the power of data in entirely new ways. By streamlining and customizing the lending process, we strive to give everyone greater confidence over the outcome.
Summary
We are looking for a strong DevOps engineer to build our operations team. In this role, you will architect, implement, and administer our AWS-based infrastructure. In addition, you will lead the development of tools that will help us monitor our infrastructure and proactively respond to issues before they arise. DevOps is already part of our engineering team’s DNA. Rather than dealing with daily operations and on-call schedules, you’ll get to create the tools and frameworks that empower other developers to operate their own services.
Responsibilities
* Work with the latest DevOps technologies such as Docker, Terraform, Ansible and Chef * Think like a product manager, where the other engineers at Clara are your customers * Create tools and frameworks that enable our engineering teams to build, release, and operate their own microservices * Architect, implement, and administer our AWS-based infrastructure spanning consumer facing web applications, backend business workflow engines, and data pipelines * Design a well-monitored and self-healing infrastructure that scales with our business * Work with, teach, and learn from an awesome team that is fun, devoted to personal growth, and committed to building something meaningful, lasting, and impactful
Ideal Candidate
* 4+ years of experience as a software or DevOps engineer * 2+ years managing a non-trivial system architecture in AWS. Our current system has ~80 nodes serving 3 front end applications, with more than a dozen back-end services across several environments; this is likely to grow significantly to support on-demand environments, more complex analytics, additional workflows, etc. * You see both sides of DevOps - development and operations, and see how they are intertwined and influence each other * You care about continuous integration, reliable deployments, sensible configuration management, etc., because they catch errors early and improve both system stability and developer efficiency * You’re a developer first and foremost and are lazy in the right ways - you have a focus on building tools, systems and patterns, not manual firefighting. * You have built reusable systems, and are familiar with modern tools to reliably, consistently and repeatedly manage them - we’re open to some combination / selection of Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Linux, Docker; not: post-it notes, tribal knowledge, or prayer * You have expertise or a strong interest in security best practices and defense mechanisms
