Camera Senior Systems Engineer
Cisco Meraki
(San Francisco, California)We create 100% cloud managed IT that simply works
Technology can connect us, empower us, and drive us. At Cisco Meraki, we believe that by simplifying powerful technology, we can free passionate people to focus on their mission and reach groups previously left in the darkness.
The camera team is a small, fast-moving team building security cameras with a unique edge-storage architecture, disrupting an industry where innovation is rare. The Meraki MV system is powerful, secure, and does not rely on any on-premise servers, making it easy to deploy and scale from one to hundreds of cameras per site. Our engineers have built an algorithm for indexing video motion data that enables searching gigabytes of video in milliseconds. Every day we work across the full stack, using tools and technologies such as FFmpeg, OpenCV, H.264/H.265, Ruby, Scala, and React, deployed on many thousands of Linux-based embedded systems. We're demonstrating the power of Meraki as a platform for rapidly bringing new product families to market. Today, cameras are mainly used for security, but what if they could be used for more? Imagery from a camera is information that can solve a problem or offer an alternative insight. MV cameras blend the best of cloud and IoT technology, making it simpler and easier for customers to use the camera as a sensor.
- Extract the most interesting segments from hours of video to enable users to only watch the most relevant parts, using tools like OpenCV and algorithms like background subtraction.
- Explore video codecs and parameter tuning to maximize video retention and quality. Customers watch only a fraction of recorded video; how can we capitalize on this?
- Deploy new firmware features to customers in a matter of weeks – not months or years – using the Meraki cloud.
- Develop adaptive video encoding optimizations such as smart H.264. Help us understand our customers’ particular use cases and pick the right optimizations.
- Enable end-to-end encryption for maximum customer privacy, while retaining our ability to build interesting and powerful video analytics.
- Build a video streaming architecture that works everywhere, and is secure by default. Enable customers to stream over the Internet or the LAN, in a browser, with no plugins or VPN configuration required – Meraki simple.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues using aggregated error reports.
- Have 5-10+ years of experience writing production code and working on large-scale projects.
- Are an experienced hacker who can plug every leak, squash every bug, and wring out every drop of performance.
- Have deep experience with camera and video technology, such as FFmpeg, RTSP, and OpenCV.
- Are comfortable working on Linux-based embedded devices with C and C++.
- Are interested in career advancement. We're looking for leaders, whether that means you want to be a strong leading individual contributor or you want to grow into a tech lead role.
- Experience in multiple levels of the stack.
- Experience or interest in hacking the Linux kernel to improve performance.
- Networking/wireless experience.
