Summary
Business unit leader for a paper mill with full P&L responsibility, this General Manager will lead our Caraustar associates to ensure safe, efficient operations to produce and deliver quality paperboard.
Responsibilities
* Lead activities to ensure safe working activities and conditions. * Manage and develop the leaders of all business unit departments with the goal of increasing talent in the organization to achieve our business goals. * Advance Operational Excellence activities to include performance management, root cause problem solving, lean and six sigma methods. Set goals and monitor progress in developing new products and improvements in current products to increase customer satisfaction and demand for our products. * Maintain quality systems and costing data to support our sales efforts; work with regional sales managers to identify priority of effort in improvement of product to increase customer satisfaction. * Manage employee relations with fair and consistent application of the rules. Adhere to and execute all company policies and procedures. * Manage all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Caraustar accounting policies and financial control procedures. Ensures that Subordinates are trained in and aware of the requirements of the Caraustar Standards of Business Conduct Policy. * Analyzes corporate financial statements of profit and loss each month. Maintain efforts to control finished goods and raw material inventories. Collect end of month data to supply to the financial group. * Direct and coordinate financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments and increase efficiency. * Manage cost control for all P&L Line items. * Develop and implement strategic capital investment. * Manage repair and maintenance spend, advance activities to improve reliability using computerize maintenance management system (CMMS) to plan and measure success. * Support procurement efforts of Centralized Buying Office and adhere to all policies ensuring proper purchase and supply processes. * Manage the logistics of the product in the production facilities
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering Discipline, Paper Science, Business Management or related industry preferred and/or at least 5 years as either an operations manager of a heavy industrial manufacturing facility or as a general manager of paper mill or other similar continuous manufacturing facility. * Must have prior knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership techniques, production methods and coordination of people and resources. * Must thoroughly understand Human Resource principles and procedures of recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiations, and personnel information systems where appropriate. * Must be competent in management of financial and business production systems to analyze data and must be able to interpret and present data via Microsoft Office Software. * Knowledge and use of distributive control systems, real time and principles of statistical process control, and other continuous manufacturing control a plus. * Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data a plus. * Ability to actively listen and communicate efficiently. * Ability to strategically plan and make good judgments. * Ability to manage time of self and others a must.
