Software Engineer

AOL Lifestream is a web-based application that enables users to keep track of all their comments on social networking sites. Integrated with AIM Express, AIM 7, and AIM for Mac, users can publish their statuses, reply to comments on networking sites from their Lifestream tab, and more. AOL Lifestream is a product of AOL.

This position is within AOL Platform’s demand side platform. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining the ad delivery systems for One by AOL. The team builds backend systems that receive ad requests via the internet directly from publisher and through a variety of RTB integrations. The team focuses on highly scalable and performant systems capable of handling billions of requests a day. The system runs both inside AOL’s data centers and in the AWS cloud, both in the US and internationally.

* Design and code backend Scala and Java applications and services. Emphasis is placed on implementing maintainable, scalable systems capable of handling billions of requests a day. * Participate in an Agile process to contribute towards a highly functional team. * Write unit, integration and acceptance tests as well as specification documents. * Troubleshoot production issues related to the team’s features. * Analyze business and technical requirements and design solutions to meet those needs. * Collaborate both on the team as well as other teams. * Collaborate with product managers to develop and clarify requirements.

* Bachelor’s degree and experience programming using Java or a similar language. * Knowledge of Scala, Akka, Spray, Thrift, C++ is a plus but one must be willing/able to learn them. * Must have strong programming and debugging skills. * Must have a solid understanding of object oriented programming. * Solid base in Computer Science such as algorithms and algorithm analysis. * Experience with a functional language would be a plus. * Must have a working knowledge of software design processes and methodologies. * Strong problem-solving skills. * Understanding of RDBMS and general database concepts. * Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
