Front-End Developer

Zappos is an online retailer specializing in shoes. In addition to shoes they sell handbags, clothing, eyewear, watches and accessories. The company is currently based in Henderson, NV, with a warehouse in Shepherdsville, KY. In addition, Zappos has a small number of brick-and-mortar outlet stores. The name Zappos is derived from the Spanish word zapatos, meaning shoes.

We're looking for a highly skilled Front-End Developer who lives and breathes web standards. You will have strong experience with semantic HTML and CSS, extensive knowledge of native JavaScript, and familiarity with JavaScript frameworks like jQuery, Mustache, etc. We work with a lot of *nix-based technologies, so experience with shell scripting and GNU tools will be very beneficial, too. The front-end team at Zappos (aka FEZ) is a close-knit group of developers who work to make sure the website is maintainable, speedy, and stable. We are always looking for new ways to make things better for our customers, so you will always have lots of interesting problems to solve. Beyond all the technology, FEZ tries to blaze the trail of what it means to be a family and drive culture in a place where the bar is already set high. We have gone on a lot of fun outings over the years that include Zion National Park hikes, Colorado River boat trips, Magic Mountain, the San Diego Zoo, and a San Francisco tour.

* Semantic HTML and CSS coding for assigned projects * Utilizing native JavaScript to build interactive yet accessible UIs * Working with templating languages like Freemarker, JSP, Mustache and Handlebars * Collaborating with UX team and business users to plan, prototype and build new features * Willing to relocate to Las Vegas area

* Bachelors Degree in Web Development, Computer Science or combined equivalent of education and/or experience is required * Ability to create layouts using advanced and semantic HTML5 and CSS3, as well as previous HTML and CSS specs * Extensive knowledge of native JavaScript and JS frameworks such as jQuery * Experience with object-oriented JavaScript * Strong understanding of JavaScript performance and optimization * Extensive use of APIs and understanding of HTTP and REST architecture * Strong web portfolio required** (showcasing the aforementioned skills) * Comfortable working in a *nix environment and using GNU tools * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Exemplify our company Core Values * Must be a team player and open to change * Fun and friendly attitude * Hobbit-like accuracy with a Nerf gun **Bonus Points:** * Experience with SASS or other CSS pre-processor * Experience with version control such as Git * Experience with server-side scripting languages like Node.js, Python or Ruby * Experience with Freemarker or JSP templating * Experience with AWS * 3+ years eCommerce experience with a larger retailer
