Director of Design

Varo Money, Inc. is a financial technology company based in San Francisco, California. Varo was founded on the belief that there is a better way to bank that will help improve the financial outcomes of a generation of consumers.

* Lead and facilitate a talented, young team through each stage of the design process * Set the direction, objectives, and shape of design projects knowing that each project may require a novel approach * Mentor, coach and manage your designers while also being hands-on for certain projects * Collaborate with team members and stakeholders in Product, Engineering, Marketing, Research, and Strategy to build amazing experiences * Represent and speak for Varo Design internally and externally * Advocate and be the voice of our customer in our product development process

**Previous experiences that'll help you be great** * 7-10 years of professional experience, including 3-5 as a design leader * Launching new consumer technology products and features * Building a design team from scratch * Managing or working closely with UX, product, and visual designers * Speaking publicly or participating at external events to promote the company and our achievements * Influencing internal stakeholders across product, growth, operations, finance, analytics, and the executive team to consistently follow design principles **The three skills that matter most** * An intuitive sense of simply great design and user experience * A collaborative nature, a hunger for feedback, a connector of teams and people, and a facilitator of design workshops * Poise and organizational adeptness in order to make progress in a fast-paced startup environment **Other nice to haves:** * A passion for and dedication to mastering the details of any project * A balance of strong UX sensibilities (especially in mobile), visual design acumen, and smart design process * Experience managing multiple projects, in a fast-paced, high volume environment * Scrappy and game for any task * Able to adapt to quick changes in direction * Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and thought-leadership * A very high level of intellectual curiosity
