Summary
The Innovation Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks applicants for a full-time position as a Research Operations Specialist. This position is responsible for managing the research and design projects at the Innovation Center including research personnel, operations, the facility, and its assets. This position serves as a subject matter expert on trends in design and innovation and participates in research projects.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and manage research projects taking place at the Innovation Center by analyzing needs and feasibility of project proposals including space, cost, timing, staffing, and research personnel. * Develop and lead workshops and classes on laboratory practices and equipment, and prototyping needs for Interdisciplinary Product Development courses. * Oversee research operations and timelines to ensure attainment of goals and successful completion by monitoring research progress and implementing changes as needed. * Serve as primary contact for inquiries about the Innovation Center from internal and external agencies and clients. * Identify, develop, and implement visibility and marketing strategies for the Center.
Ideal Candidate
Bachelors Degree in industrial design required, Masters Degree preferred. Minimum of three years industry experience directly related to interdisciplinary design, prototyping, and model-making, plus a minimum of one year of design project management experience. Knowledge of prototyping process from ideation and rapid prototyping to final visual models. Proficient with most current industrial design software and equipment. Ability to analyze competing needs of research projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Teaching experience preferred.
