Support Operations Developer

Shopify is a leading cloud-based, multichannel commerce platform designed for small and medium-sized businesses. Merchants can use the software to design, set up and manage their stores across multiple sales channels, including web, mobile, social media such as Pinterest and Facebook, brick-and-mortar locations, and pop-up shops. The platform also provides a merchant with a powerful back-office and a single view of their business.

Build and scale the tools and systems our Support team uses.

Work with the other members of the Support Operations team to re-define how Shopify designs, builds, and maintains a growing set of our Support Tools and Systems

Help establish the build vs buy tooling strategies to reduce merchant effort, generate value for merchants and improve operational efficiency.

• Writing back-end code in Ruby
• Prototyping and building clean, frictionless, responsive UI
• Writing tidy, maintainable stylesheets
• Collaborating with other designers and developers
• Using TDD to write well-tested code
• Fixing bugs fast and taking your time to solve hard problems well
• Learning and growing constantly

• Experience with Ruby on Rails or the desire to learn it quickly
• Proficiency with UNIX commands and Git.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL (we’re mostly on MySQL with some Postgres)
• Experience building and scaling user-focused web applications
• A strong commitment to user experience and quality
• Experience building clean, maintainable CSS and JavaScript
• Experience deploying and maintaining applications on services like Heroku or DigitalOcean
• Experience building apps for multiple platforms or APIs such as Zendesk, Twilio, etc.
• Experience integrating multiple tools and data sources.
• Experience tuning a user interface based on customer feedback and data.
• Experience refactoring a code base with no impact to customers.
