Summary
RLI Surety seeks to hire a Professional Engineer to work in house with its claims department to assist in expediting and analyzing performance and payment bond claims for its contract surety division and in addition assist underwriting in its assessment of current and future accounts. This position will benefit both claims on the investigation of a particular project and for underwriting to assist in pre-qualification on certain public projects but will report directly to Claims.
Responsibilities
* Project assessment and investigation for performance and large payment bond; claims: establishment of percent complete; analysis of cost-to-complete; preparation of Re-Bid Packages; payment bond claim analysis; assist on ratification of subcontract agreements; project monitoring; project administration & closeout; assist on establishment of reserve recommendations and pre-bond bid analysis. * Provide analysis for release of funds held in funds control/trust accounts. * LAE Expense Monitoring * Lead, participate in, or conduct account visits for identified customers to evaluate/assess all of the following, including related systems as appropriate: * Estimating, project management, accounting, and senior management (or ownership) groups of the company and their corresponding interactions with each other. * Financial reporting capabilities. * The quality of the internal controls and job cost systems that are in place and/or being utilized. * Review project bid-spreads when significant variance is identified by underwriting, which involve securing the estimating and bid documentation, known results, contract/RFPs [including drawings and specifications] and interview of head estimator or equivalent. Conduct further independent testing and verification of the estimated cost data provided and prepare a written report of the analysis as appropriate. * Provide pre-bid technical analysis to Underwriting where the prospective project has unusual and/or atypical elements within the bonded scope of work.
Ideal Candidate
* BS Degree in engineering or related field required. * A minimum of 10 years progressively responsibility in surety claims or construction management expected. A minimum of 5 years of construction management experience and 7-10 years of proven surety claims/project management experience preferred. * Extensive experience with estimating, project management and job costing systems and utilization strongly preferred. * Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills required in dealing with clients, accounts, consultants and members of senior management. * Significant exposure and understanding of legal process required. * Must be willing to travel up-to 30%.
