Summary
Under general supervision, to provide support services including vocational training and education to clients/employees with moderate to severe physical and behavioral disabilities in community, residential, or worksite settings. Employees in this job class may dispense medication, evaluate general well-being of client/employee, teach living skills and assist in enhancing the overall health and well-being of the client/employee. This job class requires supervisory skills in managing disabled clients/employees, and the ability to oversee daily activities, document and maintain client/employee files, and patiently caring for clients/employees.
Responsibilities
* Monitors and teaches disabled clients/employees job tasks and/or educational tasks both in community, residential, or worksite settings. * Provides care and direction for disabled clients/employees. Depending on the needs and abilities of the client/employee, the care and direction may include: personal hygiene, feeding and proper nutrition, meal planning and preparation, dispensing medication and/or taking client/employee to medical appointments, self-help living skills, job application skills, school or work activities, cleaning work/living area, social skills, behavior management, and safety. * Assists clients/employees with arrival and departures; meeting and monitoring public transportation, caretakers, etc. * Provides direction and supervision for work or school related activities. This may include items such as; safety, quality control, and other items related to work or school. * Communicates with family and appropriate parties on information relating to the employee’s health, behavior, and well-being. *Maintains case files to include case notes, incident reports, health and safety risk assessments, and related paperwork on a daily basis. * Plans, and supervises clients/employees on community outings and experiences. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * High School Diploma or G.E.D.; * Experience working with people with disabilities preferred Rehabilitation Specialist I; five or more years of experience working with people with disabilities Rehabilitation Specialist II; * Experience in providing direction and assistance to others, preferably with disabled individuals; * Computer literacy and skills to use business software and the Internet in a variety of applications, including memos, schedules, spreadsheets, and data entry; * Ability to be flexible in changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time; * Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; maintains effective working relationships with other staff and clients; * Human Relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with other staff, employers and clients; * Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common sense skills. CERTIFICATES REQUIRED: Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: * Sitting, standing and walking (75-95%) * Bending, reaching, stooping (75-95%) * Lifting up to 30 lbs. (15-25%) * Keyboarding (5-10%) * Viewing computer screens (5-10%)
